Mabel Normand was born 1893? on Staten Island , New York. She was an early Gibson Girl model by age 14 before entering film in1910 at 16 with DW Griffith's Biograph Film Co. As a comedienne, she was the best of her era-when it came to comedy acting, she at times outmatched Harold Lloyd, Buster Keaton and her co-stars, Fatty Arbuckle and Charlie Chaplin.
