This song was written by Norman Kaye, a Hawaiian who adopted an Anglo name on the mainland. His sister, Mary Kaye, led a trio that became a popular lounge act in Las Vegas in the 1950s and 1960s. The last name of Mary and Norman was Ka'aihue. They produced a few Hawaiian albums over the years and Mary became famous for playing the Fender Stratocaster.
