Thank-you, JoAnne, for introducing me to this wonderful film!! :) :) :) Reformed Chicago beer tycoon James "Bugs" Ahearn (Robinson) has movied to California to make his way in high society. He rents a mansion from Ruth Wayburn (Mary Astor), a formerly wealthy woman who has fallen on hard times. Bugs falls for a rich dame named Polly Cass (Helen Vinson) who is trying to fleece him for every cent. In this scene, he asks Ruth how he should propose to Polly.
