The X Factor is undoubtedly the worst show on television and serves as a vehicle for media mogul Simon Cowell to breed a pop-star via over-exposure to the general public. For what seems like an entire year, The X Factor plagues our screens and is separated into two distinct formats. First, the four judges span the width and breadth of the country, screening hundreds of thousands of hopefuls, befor... read more

I really hate reality TV, but there is something about the auditions that hook me in on this show. I can't help myself watching the pain of some of the "acts" but at other times it isn't that funny... it's just sad. It can be entertaining at times, but past the auditions it's nothing but a popularity contest.

Popular TV Formats (9 tv items)

"Ψ A television music competition, originating in the United Kingdom, and spawning many other national versions, The X Factor was devised as a replacement for the highly successful Pop Idol, which was put on indefinite hiatus after its second series, largely because Cowell, who was a judge on Pop Idol, wished to launch a show to which he owned the television rights. Ψ X factor means some advantageous quality that someone or something is attributed to have, a quality that is regarded as myste"

Dumb Down TV (13 tv items)

"The loathesome, false and insincere, Simon Cowells clever, money making creation. He has masterfully created a show that works on what I have described above for Big Brother. He works on the premise that people are intellectually lazy and want to watch engineered theatrics and then believe the most talented have been selected. And people do, still watch this. Its launched the careers of people that fit this mould too. Cheryl Cole is just another example of someone who fits this bill. I recogn"

For what seems like an entire year, The X Factor plagues our screens and is separated into two distinct formats. First, the four judges span the width and breadth of the country, screening hundreds of thousands of hopefuls, before secondly whittling down the list to twelve finalists that compete in a knockout competition.

The first episodes are forcibly enjoyable thanks to some excruciating quick-editing and dramatic background music which splices the countries most hopeless singers/pranksters in with the odd contestant who can actually sing. The tremendous effort the show goes to in order to highlight these jok” read more
