Southland has redefined the police drama genre with its raw, authentic look at the lives and work of Los Angeles detectives and beat cops. Shot on location in the streets and neighborhoods of Los Angeles, the series captures a realistic, natural environment where similar situations can and often do occur in real life.
"Southland started good in the first two season. Benjamin Mckenzie was great in The O.C. I'm a fan of his and he does ok on the show. Besides other characters and plots it gets a bit boring. Ben Sherman has a great character storyline, the rookie cop who had a bad childhood life similar to The O.C. You don't really know who is the main character in this show. I just hope the new season 5 is as good as the first two."
"2013 has been the year of good shows being cancelled. Now the cop show, Southland has been cancelled after season 5. Season 5 was a good season but cancelling a show that finale has a good cliffhanger is just stupid. "

This drama delves into the daily lives of patrol officers and detectives on the streets of Los Angeles. Originally broadcast on NBC as a replacement for ER, Southland initially focused on how a case would inter-connect with various police departments - the beat cops, the drug and gang squad and homicide while also showing the characters’ home lives. But with a large ensemble cast, the stories were spread too thin and there just seemed to be too much going on.
Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed watching the first season. It is electrifying viewing but what I especially looked forward to were the interactions between Sergeant John Cooper” read more

"April 2009 -- May 2009 This cancellation was painful enough, made worse by the way that NBC decided to handle it. After the engaging and largely critically adored initial seven episodes of the midseason show, they announced fans would get a new season in the fall. Then only weeks before the show was set to premiere, they pulled it from the schedule claiming it was too gritty (which was the point of the intense cop drama set on the mean streets of Los Angeles in the first place). The six episodes"
