Scrubs review

Impressive not only for being fun, crazy and short... but for being REAL!
As medical student, the best thing on this show is how you watch it and keep remembering those histories you heard or things you've seen on the hospital.

Good but now Formulated

Posted : 11 months, 1 week ago on 11 January 2009 09:21 (A review of Scrubs)

Was an amusing show when it started out, but now has become a really formulated sitcom. I don't expect modern sitcoms to be the same every week, there should be a little more than that going for them. The little pop culture references and day dream sequences used to be a treat and all though they were hit and miss they were still funny viewing. Now that the show has become more widespread and naturally got a wider range of viewers who a high percentage are idiotic they can just do that over and over again. Instead of writing funny jokes they now just put in something wacky or over the top silly for the viewers to look at. Loads of shows have become like this because the mass population don't like change and will gladly watch the same stuff over and over again. The first handleful of years are funny and it can be great when high profile stars guest like Elizabeth Banks, but otherwise this show has become the same every week with poorly written gags.

Amazing

Scrubs is a seriously funny and unique comedy that unites medical drama with slapstick and witty comedy. The character of JD, who the show is focused on, is a new doctor trying to find his way in a swamped overhyped job. He finds solace from this in his best friend, Turk, of which he has known since college. His original naivety and inability led him to meet Carla, an experienced nurse, who eventually marries Turk.
What makes Scrubs so unique is that Dr Cox, JD's father-figure and mentor, is such a jerk! He is incredibly self absorbed and is keen to bring down the chief of medicine, Dr Kelso, who is, possibly, satan himself!

An interesting and thought provoking comedy with real depth and huge charm. I dare anyone to be able to walk away from an episode mid-flow.

Not funny anymore.

Scrubs used to be the most brilliant comedy series available in its first 5 years. Every episode had a wonderful tale, some hilarious inventions such as new phrases, or highlighting things certain people do that make you laugh because you agree and know someone just like it etc.

Then it started to become formulated. JD has far to many stupid outrageous thoughts, Turk and JD are always childish and naughty, Turk acts black, and Carla acts like the mum/Spaniard/straight one. These 3 alone would be enough but then you have Eliot who now cant seem to be in a scene without some anecdote, they used to be superb but now they just make me feel uncomfortable, as do Dr Cox's rants. You just want both of them to find a new gimmick and never look back. The Janitor and Ted are still funny as ever, but the writers are abusing this humor by making them wacky or absurd.
Even the episodes seem to follow the exact same template, new predicament/happening, trouble adjusting/fixing then resolution and moral of the story. Every time, in every episode this happens. It just needs to stop!
Sadly, they were going to stop it at season 7, but the American network executives decided to sell it and make a season 8 on another channel! So low and behold the show continues. I feel out of the yearn to finish the story i must watch along, but this is fast becoming like Smallville for me, there is only so much i can take before i stop watching because its become tripe.

That being said, if you are reading this as someone who wants to know wether to bother watching Scrubs, then i would say YES, DEFINITELY purely because the first 5 seasons are absolutely hilarious. The writing in these years just seems clever and witty. The formula is there, but it is used properly as a conduit for their brilliant tale. Its only when they start creating episodes in a "paint by numbers" style filling in the blanks as they go along that things start trailing. But by then you would be on season 6 so you would of had a fill of great tv anyway!

I wouldnt say this is the funniest comedy America has given us, i was a big fan of Friends, and you cant really say that was less of a success as it ran for 10 years and was still very funny at the end. Scrubs however feels more like an upbeat soap opera to me now, i watch it because i want to know about the characters lives, but i found tonight for example i laughed about 3 times in a half hour episode. I guess they raised the bar to high and lost it. Roll on Americas next top Sitcom!

Scrubs review

Posted : 2 years, 6 months ago on 6 June 2007 01:19 (A review of Scrubs)

I thought the first five series of Scrubs were absolutely golden. The last series has been a little more inconsistent, but has still provided some top laughs. I think the thing about Scrubs is that it doesn't always make you laugh, but it's still extremely entertaining anyway and it continually makes you want to keep watching.

Everybody loves J.D. I heard that the seventh series will be the last, and I think that would be a good time to end it. I've seen every episode of Scrubs, so it would be an end of an era, but I'd rather that than some of the more painfull moments of series 6! Scrubs is just about one of the only show on TV that I'd make time to watch.

This is one of those shows that I keep wanting to see. There's something about Zack Braff that's funny, especially on this show. From the weird fantasy sequences to the even weirder relationships they all have, it's worth watching.
