What horror list would be complete without Stephen King? This made-for-TV miniseries adaptation of King's novel features a terrifying Nosferatu-like vampire and town full of nightwalkers in desperate need of staking."
"~ A mini-series adaptation of Stephen's King novel revolves around a writer who returns to his home town and discovers the citizens are turning into vampires."
"We don't normally expect much from made-for-TV movies, and rightly so, but this one stands out in the crowd. It might be light on budget and effects but it's high on creepiness and enjoyment. This will always remain one of my favorite vampire films, as well as Stephen King vehicles, no matter how much money is spent on others.

Okay, this may sound weird but I realize that Shawshank was a better made film but I enjoyed Salem's Lot more. *shrug*
I liked the remake w/ Rob Lowe, too but this is my favorite version. "

"I watched this movie as kid. And it terrified the hell out of me! You got James Mason putting kids into bags, creepy children knocking on second story windows (from the outside) and a freaky nosferatu all in the same flick. Maybe as an adult, these things aren't as impressive. But, when I get around to it, I'll watch the movie again.

It might have been made for TV, but Salem's Lot delivers theatrical thrills and chills. It tells the story of an author who returns to his home town, only to discover that a vampire has moved in and is steadily turning everyone into creatures of the night. Because it's a miniseries, there's time to develop several plot points, humanizing the characters and heightening the fear and tragedy.
