"DCI Tennison has to fight her superiors' sexist attitudes to get the right to lead her first major murder investigation. She overcomes their prejudices (to a point) and solves the case through old fashioned detective work. The first series establishes the gritty realism and outstanding acting that is a hallmark of this series."
