Welcome to the NHK

Welcome to the NHK has remained plastered in my head for several months now which is always the sign of a great or terrible experience. Welcome to the NHK slaps the viewer in the face with a harsh piece of realism which depicts the theory of rationalism as irrational to the social human being. In the Industrial World and more specifically Japan so much pressure is placed on young people to achieve... read more

Description: Satou Tatsuhiro is a 22 year old man, who is a NEET (Not in Employment, Education, or Training) and a hikikomori (meaning acute social withdrawal). He thinks everything around him is a conspiracy, including the reason why many people, including himself, become hikikomori. Satou comes up with this strange conspiracy theory which includes the Nihon Hikikomori Kyōkai (NHK), a secret organization with the intention to make the world filled with hikikomori. Satou wants to break free from the NHK's clutches, but cannot, since he finds it too frightening to go outdoors by himself; that is until he meets Misaki Nakahara, who selects Sa ... (more)

Welcome to the NHK

“Welcome to the NHK has remained plastered in my head for several months now which is always the sign of a great or terrible experience. Welcome to the NHK slaps the viewer in the face with a harsh piece of realism which depicts the theory of rationalism as irrational to the social human being. In the Industrial World and more specifically Japan so much pressure is placed on young people to achieve and continue the culture of conservatism and economic growth that those who fail or can't rise to the astronomical standards are disregarded and condemned to the menial faucets of society. Sato throughout the series holds the place of a companion, you and him suffer together, share the same food and cigarettes, cramped in the same space, the necessity of financially supportive parents. Shows I'm Watching / Shows I Want to Watch (57 tv items)

"24 Episodes, Finished May 24th, 2013 I don't really know what to say about this. A lot of the actions of the characters were entirely unrelatable, so they maybe didn't have as much as an impact on me. Not to say it was a bad show, it was actually the opposite of bad."

Things that have made me cry. (8 movies items)

"Because this series pretty much showed me my life and rubbed everything that is wrong with it directly into my face, I found this show to be the most emotionally crushing thing I've ever seen. I have labeled this as the world's most depressing comedy."
