Evangelion might have had an impact on the anime culture, but I think it's incredibly overrated, rather pretentious, and most of the time, just downright mean-spirited. Why? Here, we have Shinji, a kid with self-image lower than a mud-encrusted doormat. I can buy Asuka being hard on him since she's the hot-blooded Tsundere type, but everyone else? Unacceptable! And then there's Rei. She's hard to ... read more

Everybody knows of the classic "Mind Rape" episode, but the episode afterwards was where the entire series went straight to hell. Why? Because Dr. Akagi had the au” read more

The best anime I have ever seen. It was sad, it was psychological, it was tragic and it was weird. While the animation looks very sketchy today, it still holds up thanks to its fantastic production values. Its themes of abandonment and loneliness caters to its action packed and sometimes gory set pieces while its characters are endlessly fascinating and all the while tragic."
