Melinda Gordon can see and talk to dead people. She uses her gift to help these earth-bound spirits cross over. If you've experienced the loss of a loved one you can appreciate the show's sentiment about finding peace in the aftermath of death. For about a third of season 1, the show's tone is more heartwarming but shifts to suspense with emotional drama. This makes Ghost Whisperer come across as a blend of Touched By An Angel and Supernatural - two styles of story-telling that don't really mix.
