In the 1840s, Cranford is ruled by the ladies. They adore good gossip; and romance and change is in the air, as the unwelcome grasp of the Industrial Revolution rapidly approaches their beloved rural market-town.

The British Village (7 tv items)

"The village of Cranford has a largely female population, doesn't like the idea of a railway very much and everyone seems to be in everyone's business. A really great cast of actors stars here and bring the village and it's characters vividly to life. No hint of any murders though."

This mini-series (part drama, part comedy, part social studies) produced by the BBC gives an incredible insight into the people of the time and into social history.

All actors and actresses were splendidly cast and deliver excellent performances.

The costumes, the sets, the photography - everything is of a top notch quality.

Laughter and tears guaranteed all through, and with every episode.
