I heard about this game today and which version would you recommend, the PS1 or N64 version?

If the only choice is between those two, I'd go with the N64 version. If you're open for another system, I'd recommend the Dreamcast version over both of 'em.

I keep the Dreamcast version in mind when I go to a game store next month.

I have the PS2 game that came on a collection with some other racing games. Damn good game still! But yeah, the Dreamcast version is a good choice.
