I have bought Nora Roberts Northern lights several times every time I loan it out I never get it back. Another book called the Shack I buy over and over but you're supposed to give that book away.

Why would I buy books over and over again? If I've given someone the privilege of having a loan of one of my books I expect it back. Otherwise I hunt them down and gut them. Taking the book back in the process, mind you.

The only books I've bought various copies of was practically every book in the Artemis Fowl series, as I lost them as soon as I finished, then I'd read the next and wanna go back through the others and re-read them to freshen up on what's going on

My friends are all lunkheads. Thus they do not read books. Of any kind.

SAS Survival Manual - I don't want to keep buying it, but most new survival books I get are just a rip-off/copy of the original classic.

I do exactly what Tartan_Skirt mentioned. Excellent books that belong to me will not be stolen.
I'm not sure I ever had to buy another copy of any book I've owned. I'm close to, though, since I haven't been able to find one of my favorite books by Judy Blume. She writes lower level books, but I loved her writing style.
The title is "Starring Sally J. Freedman as Herself"
Its been missing since I was twelve....

The only book I've ever bought more than once was Eden vol 6. I was in North Carolina and I forgot I already had a copy way back home in California.

I love Nora Roberts. I haven't read anything By her lately though the last thing I read was Tribute. And I been heavy into James Patterson lately. And Abook I seem to be buying repeatedly is Ember from the Sun. I either lose it or loan it or damage it... Weird coincidence really.

How do you damage a book so badly that it needs replacement? Last time I checked, most books nowadays were pretty damn sturdy.

I think if you take the book everywhere you can damage it. I mean, I used to always have a book on my bag, so if I have to wait for something or get bored or mybe while I was on a bus or subway I'd have somethign to do, read. And now the covers of some of them are damaged. But I also can't imagine damaging it so bad that it needs replacement. o.o

Seee, that's why I said weird coincidence, I had one copy in my bag which i stupidly set on the floor on the chinatown bus and I don't even want to try and figure out how my whole bag seemed to be soaked with urine after that. Another time the good o'l fashion tea spill, I've also had the mud puddle incident with that book...and a bath tub slip when I bought it for the first time. A couple of ripped covers. Its one of my favorite books for sentimental reasons and I like to have a fresh copy of it, so in some of those cases I may not have need to buy a new one but I did.

Anyway Hey TreeReader, they’re actually coming out with a movie version of Northern Lights..so I’ll probably read it if the movie is even halfway decent. Here’s the info if you’re interested:

Whenever I see 'The Hero and the Crown' or 'The Blue Sword' sat in a charity shop or second hand book shop, dependant on price I buy it. It's one of those books I love. I spread the joy to my friends and family, until everyone has a copy of them, that is.

I've not once had to buy an extra copy of a book - I keep my books in the best condition I can, for lack of money - I can't afford to replace them, and I love all my books. If I gave someone the privilege of borrowing one of my books, I expect it back as soon as they are finished, and if I do not receive it, they are going to get a very sound beating, not to mention a good scolding.

I don't think I've ever had to buy a book twice for replacement or anything, but if I had to nominate a book that I really should look into replacing, it's my favorite book, Jurassic Park. I've had my current (and first) copy of this book for years and I re-read it at least once a year. It has definitely seen better days and it's only a matter of time before it falls completely apart on me. I just can't bring myself to replace it because the wear and tear on it is just proof of how much I love it.

A Gift From the Sea. I keep an old hard cover for myself and a paper back for myself to reread from, then I buy more and give them to special friends.

Franny and Zooey
High Fidelity
The Things They Carried
anything by James Baldwin
anything by Raymond Carver

Usually cause I lend them out, knowing full well I won't get them back. Or else because I can't pass up older editions from used book stores.

Suspense, or Mystery, kind of like Stephen Kings books.
Anything that relates to these can keep me under the reading lamp.

These are the books that shaped up my personality when I was 14 or so.
If you'd put them in a blender you'd get the contents of my soul in return:

Whenever I see secondhand copies of these I buy them because I've got four younger siblings who are very open to reading. I want to pass on the books that I've liked.
