Scott Shiflett of punk rock veterans Face to Face is easily one of the best bass players that nobody talks about.

There's a lot of great Bass players out there.

Peter Hook - Joy Division/New Order
Pino Palladino - Gary Numan/The Who/John Mayer Trio/Herbie Hancock
Ron Carter - Miles Davis Quintet
Bootsy Collins - James Brown and the JB's
Steve Harris - Iron Maiden
Tommy Shannon - SRV and Double Trouble
Billy Cox - Jimi Hendrix/Band of Gypsys

That's just a few. I like Ron Carter and Hook as my two favorites. Listen to him on Miles' 'Cookin' or 'Workin' guy is amazing. There is many, many great bass players in Jazz music.
