Listal's A to Z library of favourite bands (241 person items)

"Nominated by Pumpkinate Few have followed in the footsteps of spoken word greats like Gil Scott-Heron, keeping true to the genre's spirit while reinterpreting it to keep up with the latest musical styles, as Saul Williams. He was dropped by his old label for simply not being hip-hop, but that's the beauty of his music: He blends spoken word, alternative and industrial styles for a variety and individuality most hip-hop artists lack. His lyrics (which are really poetry) are full of brilliance an"

the giraffe's Hip-Hop showcase (52 person items)

"Aside from his role in the movie K-Pax, the first time I saw Saul Williams perform was when he opened for The Mars Volta in 2002. That night he did spoken word, reciting his poetry & talking to the audience between each poem. I was hypnotized by his words, and soon found out he releases his poetry in book form as well as set to music on albums. While his poetry has been consistently mind-blowing, his music has progressed over time & he received a wider audience by working on his 3rd album with T"

30 days - 30 people from the giraffe (30 person items)

"Day 23 - Favorite poet I came across Saul Williams when he toured with The Mars Volta performing his poetry. After that I started searching for his books. Then I found out he'd recorded an album and I tracked it down (he's now recorded 4). And all along my love for his poetry has grown. Every time I meet someone I think would appreciate it, I give them my copy of his book/poem , Said the Shotgun to the Head. And then I go out and buy another copy of it. From the song "Surrender (A Second to Thi"

Trent Reznor - The Man, His Bands, Influences & Co (257 person items)

"Saul Williams is a hip hop artist, poet and and actor. He became famous for his role in the 1998 movie "Slam". Trent Reznor played the song "List of Demands" in 2005, when he was guest-hosting the "Radio One Rock Show" and said about it: "Next up is Saul Williams. I became aware of him a few months ago on his last self-titled album "Saul Williams", I think he's one of the most inspiring voices in American hip hop right now, in his records, and I think he breathes life into a pretty dead genre r"

Most anticipated albums of 2011 (25 person items)

"Title: Volcanic Sunlight Release date: TBA (Spring) Saul Williams has been one of my favorite artists since 2003 after saw him open for The Mars Volta. His poetry consistently blows my mind, and the fact that he uses a variety of soundscapes to back it rather than going for a conventional hip-hop sound has further earned my respect. His last album The Inevitable Rise & Fall of Niggy Tardust, which had music created by & was produced by Trent Reznor, is one of my favorite albums of all-time, so"
