Roscoe Arbuckle was an American silent film comedian, director, and screenwriter. Starting at the Selig Polyscope Company he eventually moved to Keystone Studios where he worked with Mabel Normand and Harold Lloyd. He mentored Charlie Chaplin and discovered Buster Keaton and Bob Hope. He was one of the most popular stars of the 1910s, and soon became one of the highest paid signing a contract to make $3 million a year in 1918.

Biggest Celebrity Sex Scandals (25 person items)

" The silent movie funnyman was accused of killing actress Virginia Rappe on September 9, 1921 during a violent sex attack, allegedly rupturing her bladder. He went through three trials over the death that happened during his Labor Day weekend party but wasn't convicted. His exoneration came too late, however, as the scandal had already wrecked his career. Arbuckle died at 46 in 1933. The cause of Virginia Rappeā€™s death remains a Hollywood mystery."
