A Must Hear.

Posted : 2 weeks, 1 day ago on 30 April 2008 06:22 (A review of Whisper War)

Incredible!! I can't believe this is their debut album. I don't have the words for how much I love this album. I love how 'One of Those Nights' bleeds into 'Bounce'. Patrick really can't help singing on song's he's produced can he? I'm really having trouble picking a favourite song. I really dig 'I'm a Wonder' but 'Bounce' and 'This City is Contagious' are amazing as well. I'm also really impressed with ''Vegas Skies, they've done the improbable and written a ballad that I actually really like. The only thing I'm not quite sure I like is the vocal effects in 'High Hopes in Velvet Ropes' and I'm sure that a couple days from now I'll enjoy that too.

Good music too, not just the show

I caught the Blue Man group on stage earlier this year and loved them. I snapped up this CD/DVD set as soon as it came out because I really liked the music they played. I'm pleased to say that much of the music (the full length songs) holds up even without the visuals to accompany it. This is good alternative pop music for the most part.

review of Keane

A surprisingly very well done CD. Best song is "Crystal Ball". A good mix of U2 and their own style.

Awesome I Say

Posted : 2 weeks, 6 days ago on 25 April 2008 11:43 (A review of MMHMM)

I remember when I first got this CD. It actually was the first Relient K CD I got. Yeah, I got them out of order, but whatever. I went on a long car trip and I just listened to it late at night, on a windy road. (I cant fall asleep in cars.) Anyway, I remember just listening to the words of each song and really hearing it. You know? The words just struck me. I cant really remember what song I was actually listening to but I really felt the presence of God right then. I mean, Matt was singing from the heart. It was amazing. I will never forget that night or this CD. It was really truely awesome.

Absolutely shite

Posted : 2 weeks, 6 days ago on 25 April 2008 06:02 (A review of Scouting for Girls)

Just going to reiterate what is said below; I burst out laughing when I saw the TV advert for this album...every single one of the songs they bosted sounded the same.

How they can have the audacity to charge £11 for this 'album' is beyond me, it should be sold as a single, there is definately only one track on this album. The bost benign, droning and repetative album I have ever had the misfortune to hear.

Pulp Hits review

Posted : 2 weeks, 6 days ago on 25 April 2008 05:55 (A review of Pulp Hits)

This album will do nicely in anyone's collection. There was a lot of column inches dedicated to the banal rivalry between Blur and Oasis during the late 90's with their own brands of inane 'Brit-Pop', but for me, Pulp always had the edge with this genre. Sure, Oasis and Blur produced one-off albums that were filled with highly enjoyable pop-tracks, but Pulp had more of a longevity about them. You may also notice that they have since retired gracefully, rather than drag out their smidgeon of musical talent over an entire decade.

Furthermore, Pulp weren't relying on some media-orchestrated hate frenzy between one band and their rivals to sell records. Having said all of this, I only gave this album a generous 6 out of 10, which probably speaks volumes about what I think of the Brit-pop era in general.

Boring and samey

Posted : 2 weeks, 6 days ago on 25 April 2008 05:35 (A review of Beautiful World)

Gary Barlow: We have one alright track for our comeback album....how do we fill the rest of it? I dont have the talent to right another 10 good tracks.

Music Manager: Dont worry Gaz; you've not got any real fans anyway, you're running on the publics nostalgia and fear of growing old. Fill it with covers and a series of forgettable songs that all sound the same and sound like they were written by 'The Fray'. People will only listen to 'Patience' anyway.

An Average Album

Posted : 2 weeks, 6 days ago on 25 April 2008 04:19 (A review of Have a Nice Day)

When i heard Bon Jovi was releasing a new CD i thought it would be great, as they are a very talented band and their best of album shows the bulk combination of their worth to music, which is vast.
However, unfortunately for them, they are stuck in the past. This album was great in the sense that it has everything you want to hear from Bon Jovi, it has everything that IS Bon Jovi, but that is not enough, its the new millennium, music is evolving, and Bon Jovi just sticks to the formula they are used to.
The songs are not particularly memorable songs, mainly ones you will sing along to whilst the album is on, or when they come on the radio, but which you wont be playing in 20 years time. Most Bon Jovi fans will stick to their Cross Roads, or if a new best of comes out in the future, perhaps 1 or 2 of these songs will make it on there (Although i strongly feel none would)
Now if i was a member of the band, i would have said

"We have this retrospective album, and it has made the world think "oh yeah, they are great!!" (like Guns and Roses did....) but now we need to make an album that blows that CD out of the water and shows them we can do FAR BETTER" (Guns and Roses are bringing out a CD this year i believe, i get the feeling my review for them will be similar to this one!)

Sadly they didnt top a single song on Cross Roads, and so if that was their aim they failed. If their aim was to supply a CD which meets satisfactory requirements but does not surpass them then this is it. Im shocked to say im listening to the CD whilst i write this to get a better feel, and i have listened to it countless times in the past, but i still did not recognize some of the songs because they are just average!

Bon Jovi fans will disagree, but music fans will like this CD and likely never Love it.

I expected more from this.

Posted : 2 weeks, 6 days ago on 25 April 2008 03:48 (A review of My Brother's Blood Machine)

When i heard that Claudio Sanchez of Coheed and Cambria was going Solo on a new album about my favorite Coheed Character "Jessie the prize fighter inferno" i was quite excited. I expected such a great character to be given center stage away from Coheed and Cambria and to have some wild adventure in acoustic form.
Most of this belief was down to the fact since first becoming a Coheed fan i had heard the rumors of PFI coming to light, and about 3 acoustic guitar singles circulated the internet called "Run like Hell" "Im going to kill you" and another one i forget the name of.
Only "Im going to kill you" actually made it onto the Album and unfortunately it was renamed "the missing mcCloud boys" and was my least favorite of the 3.
I was also mistaken in thinking it would be about Jessie, in fact it turned out to be a story told BY Jessie

"Long-arm and Butchie Bleam brothers brought together by physical distortion and social seclusion are about to find themselves in the running for the most unusual job in the world.....DEATH! Listen to the story unfold as we follow these two misunderstood yet maniacal minstrels of macabre in a neverending race for ultimate power. Listen to the disturbing details as the songs takes you through the hell that is the Blood Machine. This is a story being told in song......this is hell being unleashed through love and sound...... I am the hitchhiker doomed to tell the tale of Margretville, I am your Guide, I am the Prizefighter Inferno."

This is the tagline that accompanies it on many a website/advert. I feel that it over hypes it really. But it is still a good album! There are some awesome sounds in the album and its worth a listen through once or twice as i think you'd find one song to add to your collection at least.

The songs fluctuate between electronica, folk rock and synth rock throughout the album, and upon hearing this i instantly decided i was going to love the rock but hate the electronica, AGAIN i was wrong, i actually hate the folk rock songs, LOVE the electronica songs and the synth rock is just in between really.

I would say if you like Coheed and Cambria a lot then you are going to like this too, not as much, but to a degree. If you are not a coheed fan, or dont know who Coheed and Cambria are then this probably is not for you, in my opinion it is not a fraction as good as The Amory Wars has turned out to be, but i guess that might be because that story has been going for a hell of a lot longer. I think though that with more albums and some explanation, this story may unfold quite well in the long run, but id rather Claudio stick to Coheed first!!

"We see for the first time when we stop

Posted : 3 weeks, 1 day ago on 23 April 2008 11:23 (A review of Waving White)

I found The War browsing Facebook, I believe, and got "Love Come Down" for free off Itunes. I really liked it and decided to check out the rest of the stuff. Now me, I am NOT the kind of person that buys alot of music online, but "Waving White" was just too good to pass up. I have to say, this album is one of my favorite, even if it is only 5 tracks. "Manhattan" has quickly climbed to the top of my most-liked-of-all-time list, "Love Come Down", "Satisfied", and "Thought I had died" are all just amazing. Period. "Goodbye July" is my least favorite off the EP, but it's still a very good song. Keeping in mind that my least favorite songs off of other CDs annoy me to the point of punching my answering machine, "Goodbye July" (rated a 4/5 in my library) doesn't lessen the value of the album at all. I'm a little sad that there are only 5 tracks, but those tracks are amazing, so it really makes up for it. Plus, it's really just a taste of what The War has for us in the future. The best way I can describe this CD is the most highly concentrated package of good songs out there.
