Initiation into Jazz

I discovered Michael Bublé when I heard one of his songs playing in my co-worker's office a few days ago. That's all it took to get me hooked.

This is Michael Bublé's third album and his best so far. The bulk of his material is covers of classic Jazz and Pop songs. He picks his material extremely well and the album gels very well. His singing is outstanding throughout. Somehow, he manages to impart a healthy dose of emotion into every song, regardless of the mood.

It's hard to pick any highlights from this set of songs but I'll take a stab at it anyway. My picks are 'Lost' and 'Always On My Mind'. Both about lost love but with very different emotional tones, both pulled off beautifully by Bublé.

Want to dance?

I picked this up from a "world music" shop, because it has "Zydeco Gris-Gris" on it, the piece that basically introduced me to Cajun music. Remember the film "The Big Easy" (1987)? It's the title track of the movie. This has a number of pulsating two-steps and waltzes on it that will make everybody want to dance (providing they know how to do a two-step). I know now :-).

This is simply an outstanding album.

I can't say enough how greatly Evanescence's 2nd album attempt has succeeded.

The lyrics are super, and
even have more to offer if you look into them closely. The music is thrilling, with perfect harmonic melodies and swooping surges. Lacey's vocals are so full of emotion, and are especially soulful on my favorite My Immortal.

It's no wonder it took three years to complete this masterpiece.

A7x's 4th Album

I was introduced to A7x kinda late. Really when the mega hit "Bat Country" was released. Damn did I not hear that song everywhere. Our local radio station had it on Repeat, it played at the dentist office, it played at McDonald's, hell I even heard it once at a Bar Mitzvah.
After illegally downloading "City of Evil" :( please RIAA don't hunt me down Gary Busey and Charles S. Dutton style like in the 1994 cheesy action flick "Surviving the Game") "I realized that I should have purchased it legally or at mininum some bootlegger should have gotten atleast $5 off of me for such an excellent album.
So I decided to purchase A7x 's "A7x" legally :) and honestly at first I was a very disappointed. Only three tracks stood out with "Scream" being the best of them. But maybe because of my actually purchasing this album I really wanted this one to be good so I listened to it for a few days straight. Yes, that's right Mr. Lays even stopped jamming "REO SpeedWagon The Hits" by REO SpeedWagon and "Ain't Going Out Like That" by Young MC.
M.Shadows singing in my opinion never really was the high point of the band, but it does what it supposed to do. The Rev really amps up the double bass drumming and Godsmacking speed.(It really stands out on "Almost Easy") And of course Zacky Vengence w/S.Gates have do awsome work together. even Johnny Christ bass is really standout on one of the album's best song "Scream".Which usually is next to impossible to hear unless he is the only one playing. But wehen the plan comes together is the morbid story track "A Little Piece of Heaven". The chorous is excellent and The Rev almost steals the show vocally from M.Shadows. I am not going to spoil the story, but that song is definitally showcases the band's growth in storytelling and epic full orchestra type songs. In conclusion ing buy this album if you enjoyed "City of Evil" as much as I did. Do Not buy if you were hoping for another "Sounding the Seventh Trumpth" album.
