Music reviews by EveryoneBarlow Girl review
In my opinion, this is not their best work, but it's definetely got some good songs on it. :D Don't miss out on the beginning of these renowned ladies! :D 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Carly at her best!
In 2001, the top 40 music scene was infiltrated with music by Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and other "artists" who felt they had to lipsync their music when performing live. Well Carly Hennessey (or as she's now know on American Idol as Carly Smithson) released a top-notch album in 2001! The songs are very adult-contemporary, and what drew me to them in the first place was her use of curse words and sexual references in pop music. This is a way better album than any of the music she sings on Idol! 2 comments, Reply to this entry
Highlights From The Phantom Of The Opera: The Original London Cast Recording (1986 London Cast) review
I'm not a fan of the 'sound track' genre; I'm usually the first to criticise it, as music for those who aren't music fans. However; when the score is such a fundamental part of the production, its a different matter. Phantom of the Opera has one of the most famous scores of all musicals. It is the second longest running West End production of all time; to Les Mis. Sung by the amazingly talented Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman; this is a beautiful album from beginning to end, what's more, the tracks run together seamlessly. This is an absolute must have for any Phantom fan. I picked it up for £15 when I was 11; it was 3 weeks worth of pocket money, but I never regretted the spend. Don't tell me you're a phantom fan if you don't own this album. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Now some men like a fishin'......
...But some men like the fowlin' Some men like to hear, to hear the cannonball a-roarin' But me, I like this cover of Whiskey in the Jar. Its an absolutely brilliant piece of music taken from Irish History, assumed to be about the 18th century era. Its about a man who whilst in the Cork and Kerry mountains, holds up a captain and robs him of his riches, then is betrayed by his lover, in this version her name is Molly, who dobs him in to the captain he robs from, he shoots the captain and winds up in prison as a result. The guitars Metallica use in this song are spot on, absolutely love the solos and i think the lead vocals are perfect for this kind of song. All the Oh's, Yeah's and the way he sings WHISKEEEEY IN THE JAROOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHYEAAAAAH always makes me want to shout it out loud. There are not many truely great covers, but this one is fantastic and to boot it reminds me of my grandfather who used to constantly listen to an Irish folk version of it when he was alive. I would recommend this song to anybody really, its not a matter of disliking specific genres of music, either a songs good or a song is bad, and this one is incredible! Listen to it! Oh and P.S, SORRY for the awful start to the review, it just had to be done!!! I feel quite dirty for it now. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Bonus disc is a hidden gem
The third bonus disc should be called the third disc of the set and packaged with every box of this release. It's filled with some absolute gems that I've not heard anywhere else, particularly 'Trapped', 'Missing', 'Lift me up' and 'Code of Silence'. Oh, and for the casual fan, this is a generally a better intro to Springsteen than the misleadingly named 'Greatest Hits'. Unfortunately, this misses some of the gems from that album, especially 'Secret Garden' (which was a new song on that one) and to a lesser extent, 'Better Days'. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Influential Metal Classic
The "Morbid Tales" EP (1984) was the first release of pioneering first wave black metal band Celtic Frost, following the split up of Hellhammer. The line-up was Tom G. Warrior (guitar/vocals), Martin Eric Ain (bass), and Stephen Priestly (drums). In 1985 their second release was an EP called "Emperor's Return". Stephen Priestly was replaced on drums by Reed St. Mark. This CD combines both EPs. Includes such classic songs as "Into the Crypts of Rays" (with lyrics based on the deeds of the infamous French aristocrat Gilles de Rais), the doom-laden metal masterpiece that is "Procreation (of the Wicked)", and the eerie horror movie atmospherics of "Danse Macabre" (the twisted-sounding lullaby voices in this track remind me of something out of a Dario Argento film). And of course you can't forget tracks like "Circle of the Tyrants" and "Dethroned Emperor". Whether you like doom metal, black metal, thrash metal, or death metal, Celtic Frost was a huge influence on all these emerging genres; and for those not familiar with them, this is the best place to start. An essential addition to any metal collection. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Face melting acoustic music!
This local Seattle band describes their music as 'face melting acoustic music'. Their debut EP contains six excellent tracks, the standout song being 'Guilty Hands'. They are a string-only band, no drummer accompanies them. However, one of them is pretty good at churning out vocalized beats in their concerts (none of that on the EP, unfortunately). They're only three years old and still developing but already are electric performers on stage along with being very skilled. To really break through, they need more quantity and quality in their songs to go with their virtuosity on the instruments. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
We take what we can get
So, Guns n Roses is dead because Axl Rose can't get off his ego high horse. To fill the gap, we have Velvet Revolver consisting of most of GnR with Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots on vocals. These guys sound awesome, just awesome. The only problem is that they did not bother to write very many songs. Most of the songs on here are junk, miles away from the best songwriting Axl Rose could produce. He produced some junk as well, but we loved GnR for the great stuff. Still, this gets four stars, just for sounding so great. The band still rocks and Slash's guitar still wails. We'll take what we can get. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
This might go UVER your head, but...
Despite the weird Bear\Bat\Mouse? thingy on the album cover, I liked this album better than their 2007 one. Of course D-technoLife is my all-time favorite track by them, but there were some other good tracks. I don't know why the rest of the tracks besides my fave 5 were on the album, cuz they stunk like spoiled sake and were deleted promptly. FAVE 5 tRacKs f-rom ALBum: D-tecnoLife Burst CHANCE! SE D-tecnoLife (album version) P.S. I don't know if that last one really counts, it's just a different version of the top song. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
