Normal (2007)

Posted : 1 month, 3 weeks ago on 3 June 2008 01:03 (A review of Normal (2007))

Powerful film. A bit slow moving, but well acted, with a great story and cast.
My only issue with the film is that it was filmed in my city, and the way the movie shows my city is not accurate. One second they have the professor walking through China town, and the next second, he is walking into Pizza Zone, which is blocks and blocks away from China town...but in the movie, they make it seem like Pizza Zone is in a busier area of town, and closer to China town, when it's really in somewhat of a grubby neighbourhood, where the pizza place isn't all THAT busy during the day.

Aside from the inaccuracies in portraying my city, I really liked this movie.

Mama's Boy

Posted : 1 month, 3 weeks ago on 3 June 2008 12:43 (A review of Mama's Boy)

Mama's Boy is an okay movie. Anna Faris and Jon Heder are cute together, though Jon Heder plays an extremely selfish man who refuses to grow up and live his own life, leaving his mom to be happy with her new man. Nothing overly spectacular, really just okay.

I...AM...IRON-MAAAN!

Posted : 1 month, 3 weeks ago on 2 June 2008 02:44 (A review of Iron Man - the Complete Series (1990's))

The best and most fun of all the Marvel cartoons this one was part of the Marvel Action Hour shown in the UK in the mid to late 1990s.
The episodes on disc one are all round quite dated though by the second disc there is a new Heavy Metal theme song, a much slicker animation style and plotlines that are closer to the comics.

Teenage Mutant Hero Who?....

Posted : 1 month, 3 weeks ago on 2 June 2008 02:37 (A review of Bike Mice From Mars - Series 1 Vol.1)

Okay I was a big Turtles fan, by the time Biker Mice From Mars came along I was moving away from those kind of cartoons to real life kids shows (Pete and Pete, Sister Sister etc)though I do remember watching a few episodes of Biker Mice I only picked up this DVD because it was stupidly cheap in a Used section.
To my complete surprise I found this cartoon to be really good. There is alot of laugh-out loud humour in this cartoon that mainly comes from the villians (Limburger,Greasepit and Dr carbunkle)plus lots of action and while each episode contains a moral, things never get very serious and all the better for it. An excellent cartoon along with Visonaries and the 1990s Iron Man.

Definately not just for kids

Posted : 1 month, 3 weeks ago on 2 June 2008 02:27 (A review of Visionaries - Knights Of The Magical Light [1985])

Simply one of the best cartoons I have ever seen and this isnt nostalgia as I wasnt born when this cartoon was being aired. I checked this out due to curiousity and it is one of the best DVDs in my collection.
The concept of a future earth drained of electricity and forced back to medieval living is cool, add some very funny dialogue, spot-on voice acting and bold character design to the mix and you have one great show.

Review

Posted : 1 month, 3 weeks ago on 1 June 2008 10:55 (A review of Return to House on Haunted Hill (Unrated))

A decent follow-up to The House on Haunted Hill. The plot was sketchy but wasn't terrible for this type of movie. It was pretty damn funny in places. The acting wasn't great but could have been much worse. Two groups of treasure hunters are after a statue in the house and the sister of the heroine from the first movie is caught in the middle. The lack of plot was made up for by the gore factor. This movie had plenty of it.

Review

Posted : 1 month, 3 weeks ago on 1 June 2008 10:37 (A review of Ring of Darkness)

This movie was bad. Really bad. The movie felt like they spend the money for a pretty good cast, but I didn't recognize any of the actors, too bad it didn't really help. The basic plot is that a boy band ate their main singer so now he needs to be replaced. They narrowed it to three, then over the course of the movie preceded to eat two of those. After watching the movie I am still not sure what they are supposed to be, only thing they said was that they had died fifty years ago and be brought back. I'm not sure why they were eating people. Ok, so it lacks plot. No problem. It will make up for it with gore, right. There is always a place for a slasher flick. Failed on that count also. The violence was shown from a distance. I'll give the actors the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they were really trying but the script was so bad that it didn't come through. This movie was just weak from all angles.

The Entrance

Posted : 1 month, 3 weeks ago on 1 June 2008 05:44 (A review of The Entrance)

This movie is awful. Completely terrible. Bad story, acting....and you would think the acting would be better, considering the members of the cast have all been seen giving much better performances elsewhere. The story barely makes any sense, ends abruptly and pretty badly...the acting is forced, not well-timed, and just downright terrible.

Semi-Pro Unrated (single disc)

Posted : 1 month, 3 weeks ago on 1 June 2008 05:27 (A review of Semi-Pro Unrated)

A pretty good movie overall. Woody Harrelson and Will Ferrell are great together, and this movie has a good cast and story. Fun to watch, it keeps you entertained from start to finish, and this is one movie I want to add to my collection, as I know I want to see it again and again.

King Kong

Posted : 1 month, 3 weeks ago on 30 May 2008 04:28 (A review of King Kong (2 Disc Special Edition) [2005])

Okay, so I am a few years late in finally getting around to seeing this movie, but boy, am I glad I did! Excellent all around movie. I was quite impressed with it in every respect, and I really enjoyed it. Yes, it is a long film, but definitely worth watching at least once, if not more! Full of action, drama, and some really touching scenes between Naomi Watts and King Kong.
