Jumper

Posted : 1 month, 2 weeks ago on 9 June 2008 03:58 (A review of Jumper)

Not totally awful, Jumper is mildly entertaining, despite having Hayden Christensen in the starring role. Why does he keep turning up in movies that seem halfway decent? Just seeing his face, or his name, makes me want to avoid anything he is in...and this one was no different. Jumper, while mildly entertaining, is sure not spectacular, nor really worth watching, as it doesn't add anything really unique/new/special...whatever...to the world.

Maybe if they had spent more time developing the story, instead of having his character spend the first half of the movie jumping from place to place, and mostly into banks so he could steal the money he uses to live off of (for eight years!) without ever once trying to get an actual job and repay some of the stolen money as he had promised to do. He makes himself out to be a good guy, but he's not that good, if he continues to rob banks for a career.

Can't really say much else about this. If you happen to pick it up, it's not completely awful...but there are MUCH better titles out there, so why waste your time and money??

The List

Posted : 1 month, 2 weeks ago on 9 June 2008 03:54 (A review of The List)

Stupendously boring, complete with bad acting, bad accents (especially Malcolm McDowell), slow moving story, choppy editing...and bad acting. Yes, I said it twice. It was THAT bad...so slow, it put me to sleep, and I wasn't even tired. When I woke up, I felt no urge to back the movie up to the point where I fell asleep. From what I could tell of what I saw when I did wake up, I hadn't really missed anything, even though I had been asleep for at least half an hour! Nor do I feel any need to resume playing the movie and finish it. And I finished watching "Meet the Spartans", which I thought was truly awful! At least that one kept me awake, despite how awful it was!

Avoid this one...unless you are suffering from insomnia and need some help getting to sleep!!

This movie started out fine, but quickly degraded to nothing more than watching Shannyn Sossamon run through a bunch of tunnels. I suppose that this was meant to be suspenseful but it ended up just being boring. The best part of the movie was the ending. While not surprising, Shannyn's character reacted the way I wanted her to.

While not the worst parody movie out there it wasn't great either. Some of the jokes was amusing while others wasn't. Many of the movies that was being parodied I hadn't seen, so some of the jokes I didn't have a point of reference for. During the ending credits when they were giving the lookalike actors, many times I didn't remember seeing them in the film. For me the high points of the movie was Diedrich Bader. This was one of the few movies that I'd seen him in since Drew Carrey ended. Kevin Sorbo is also a decent actor but it was wasted here. Overall, I wasn't sorry that I had watched it but I wouldn't really recommend it either.

This movie was pretty weak. The usual cast of characters for a Happy Madison production. I found the jokes to be forced and, for the most part, not funny. The only character that I actually found funny was Justin Long's. Ashley Scott is a pretty good actress but she was wasted in this movie. Skip it, there are much funnier movies out there.

The Bucket List

Overall, not a bad movie. It picks up around the middle of the movie, and before that, it's a bit slow moving. jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman are well cast together. Touching and moving towards the end of the movie.

This movie is hard to defend. You either like it or you don't. There is no sophisticated or subtle humor here. It is what it is and the movie doesn't try to be anything more. At times the movie goes as far as to make fun of itself. Lewis Black's role was perfect for him. Jackson was also funny. Basically, take the movie for what it is and you may find it to be an hour and a half well wasted.

*slight spoilers*
This movie is much overrated and didn't live up to the original trilogy at all. At this point Rambo has long "retired" to a small village and just wants to life out the rest of his life in peace. All is going fine to a peace corp. type group asks him to guide them into a war zone. Naturally, the village is attacked and the group is taken as prisoners. The preacher in charge of the group hires a group of mercenaries to get them out and he needs Rambo to take the group to where he left them. Rambo has taken a liking to Julie Benz's character and wants to help but the mercenaries don't want the "old man" to slow them down. They get into trouble and naturally Rambo has to save their asses. The main problem is that I had trouble suspending disbelief. Stallone simply looked too old to be doing whatever was going on. My suggestion would be to get the original trilogy and leave it at that.

A surprisingly decent film that was better than anticipated. The movie starts with a guy waking up in bed next to a guy, a dead FBI agent. Guy has no idea who he is or why he's here or why there is a dead guy in the bed. The rest of the movie is pretty much a long chase scene while he tries to figure out his past and why he can trust. Not an original plot, but the movie is fun.

The Eye

Posted : 1 month, 3 weeks ago on 3 June 2008 01:07 (A review of The Eye (Single-Disc Edition))

Pretty decent film, with some good acting, eve on the part of Jessica Alba, which is a surprise to me, since I don't much like her, or think she can really act! I haven't seen the original version of this film, but I have heard that this is a pretty good remake of the original, and while I didn't find it to be all that scary, it was creepy/spooky at times, with some good suspense, and a decent, if cheesy, ending.
