Californication - Season One

Posted : 1 month, 1 week ago on 16 June 2008 10:33 (A review of Californication - Season One)

I love this show. Great cast, entertaining story, though definitely kind of sad. Lots of nudity in it, which isn't surprising for a Showtime show, but I cannot wait for the next season, and I hope it continues to be as strong as it was for the first season.

Fool's Gold

Posted : 1 month, 1 week ago on 16 June 2008 10:31 (A review of Fool's Gold (Widescreen Edition))

I didn't have the highest of expectations for this, and I must say, not surprisingly, my opinion wasn't changed. Kate Hudson and Matthew McConnaghey did much better in "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days". "Fool's Gold" is entertaining, but not, to be honest, very good. It's idiotic, unbelievably badly acted, and completely ridiculous.

The Flock

Posted : 1 month, 1 week ago on 16 June 2008 10:23 (A review of The Flock)

Much better than I would have expected. Usually movies like this look great in the previews, then disappoint when actually watched, but this time, The Flock definitely didn't disappoint. A well-written story, good cast, keeps you watching from start to finish, with some very disturbing scenes and images...but very well done.

Be Kind Rewind

Posted : 1 month, 1 week ago on 16 June 2008 10:19 (A review of Be Kind Rewind)

Excellent movie. I loved it...though I would have loved to know how it turned out in the end, but I can see why it was left the way it was. Great story, great cast. Jack Black and Mos Def are well paired in this movie, and Danny Glover's role is also a lot of fun to watch. Definitely one to add to the collection.

very enjoyable

Posted : 1 month, 1 week ago on 14 June 2008 08:02 (A review of Rescue Me - The Complete Fourth Season)

season 4 of rescue opens with a bang. the very first episode is about the events that happened in the end of season 3. with the raping of tommy(Denis Leary) by Shiela(Callie Thorn) (who had drugged him and then accidentily burned down the house that they just bought(which happened in the season 3 finale)). the epsisode starts off that Tommy is being questioned by an insurance investigator and is really tommy questioning himself while having the conversation with the investigator. which could really mean jail time for him and sheila.

this season really focused on everyone moving on and the trying again of tommy and wife, janet(Andrea Roth). for example Mike (probie, michael Lombardi) graduates probie shcool and starts working another shift for ladder 62 and Black sean or what he likes to be called bart(larenz Tate)joins the cast. then Tommy and family start having their own family AA meetings which focus on Maggie(Tatum O' Niel) and uncle teddy(Lenny Clarke) which turns to turmoil Gavin style. Lou(John Scurti) discovers dating a former nun is not what it is cracked up to be. Franco(Daniel Sunjata) proposes to natalie. while Maggie and sean discover they need to give each other some space.

rescue me season 4 is by far my favorite so far and has classic memorable moments i myself am looking forward to season 5 coming out on dvd in the near futre.

A mixture of slasher and comedy film that manages to pull it off. The comedy is strictly lowbrow and the acting is over the top, but that was what made this movie fun. The movie could be funny one minute then have a gory death scene the next, often in the same scene. If you enjoyed the humor in Supertroopers or movies like Idle Hands or Dead and Breakfast, you will like this movie.

If you are looking for a deep story or sophisticated humor this movie isn't for you. Instead what you get is a movie that is light on plot but is pretty fun to watch. I've never seen Larry's stand-up and didn't like Delta Farce but I found myself actually enjoying this movie. Even if you don't enjoy his type of comedy, you may find this movie funny.

Posted : 1 month, 2 weeks ago on 10 June 2008 08:58 (A review of Jumper [Blu-ray])

A movie based on some other form of media, such as a book in this case, usually just cut some of the parts out but keep the overall plot. This is not the case here. The book only had the one jumper and there was no paladins. I'm guessing these changes was made to make for a more action oriented movie. Whether you will like the changes will depend on what you are looking for.

I found the movie to be pretty fun to watch. The fight scenes looked pretty good. Jackson was great as the villain. Christensen did an alright job if a little flat at times. There wasn't much character development but it worked out better than if they had tried it. The most interesting character was the other jumper. I wouldn't be surprised if they made a couple of sequels.

This movie is about four people whose lives become entangled in deliberate or random ways. The setting is a generic metropolis that never gets named. Seemingly random events that occur in one of the parts can become a major plot twist in one of the later ones. The cast gave surprisingly solid performances for the most part. The only one that seemed flat was Emile Hirsch, surprisingly. Overall, I thought that the movie had the same feel as Sin City. It wasn't as good, but still well worth watching.
