Review

Posted : 1 day, 9 hours ago on 14 May 2008 11:09 (A review of The Saint)

A surprisingly good movie. The plot was pretty basic. A scientist creates a new technology that will change the world. An agency, in this case a Russian militia group, wants to steal technology for themselves. The acting was pretty good. The action was more believable than I expected. There is no long, drawn out martial arts fighting. The interaction between Saint and the detectives chasing him had the same comedy elements as Lupin and Inspector Zenigata, particularly in the last few minutes.

A decent movie that falls somewhere between Silence of the Lambs and Saw. The death scenes had some gore in them but nowhere near the level of Saw or Hostel. The plot, while not original was more coherent than a lot of the movies I've watched recently. The acting wasn't bad. The biggest problem I had with the movie was the amount of product placement, the OnStar bit was pretty bad, and conservative them that ran through it. Blaming the killing on the Net Neutrality bill was one of the stupidest things that I have heard.

Noisy Ghosts

Posted : 2 days, 6 hours ago on 14 May 2008 02:14 (A review of Poltergeist)

POLTERGEIST is a true horror classic film and a great one at that due to the collaboration that worked well between Hooper and Spielberg's vision of a ghost story.

This is a terrific movie in every way possible. It balances humor, horror, and emotion very well together.

Watching this as an adult, I was a bit disappointed to see that some of the scenes were more amusing than scary, and that some of the effects have become dated. But the movie is otherwise visually stunning, the atmosphere is chilling, and the performances are exceptional.

"They're here".

Heh, what can you really say about this movie. Start with a horrible script and some of the worst acting I have ever seen. Add to that some terrible "special affects" and gore. Finish off with some of the most unoriginal death scenes and a killer whose motive makes absolutely no sense. And of course what slasher B film would be complete without plenty of nudity. The result, I thought that I would die laughing.

The Cottage

Posted : 4 days, 16 hours ago on 11 May 2008 04:14 (A review of The Cottage)

Completely awesome. Starts off really well, with lots of humour throughout the entire movie. I thought it was more of a comedy than a horror movie, but then things changed, and I was horrified while still laughing! Some really gruesome scenes, but the whole movie is amazingly good and well done. I want to add this one to my collection.

Walk All Over Me

Posted : 5 days, 2 hours ago on 11 May 2008 05:42 (A review of Walk All Over Me)

Nothing overly special here. Entertaining, but just barely, because aside from the completely predictable plot, "Alberta" and her "customer" are annoying characters. Not to mention the idiotic tough guys who are downright stupid and unbelievable. The whole production is wholly unbelievable, but this is somewhat watchable and entertaining at times, despite the utter stupidity.

Youth Without Youth

I had been looking forward to seeing this since I saw it in a magazine of upcoming DVD releases, so the second I had a chance to being a copy home, I did - and I was not disappointed. Interesting story, well cast, and well acted. Tim Roth is excellent in this film.

WWBD--What Would Buffy Do?

Posted : 6 days ago on 10 May 2008 08:10 (A review of Buffy the Vampire Slayer - The Complete First Season)

I actually was late in getting into this series. I had never watched a show of Buffy until after it had ended its run on TV. I just could not imagine how a show called "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" could possibly be any good plus I hated the movie that preceded. I could not have been more wrong. Highly recommend this series.
This is the weakest season out of the entire Buffy series. Season 1 is still fun to watch but lacks the depth that is added to future seasons. Luckily, the season 2 that follows is one of the best seasons of the series. Season 1 is a shorter season than the ones that follow as well. Even with this weaker season...it is still contains the witty banter that exists throughout the series and is highly enjoyable...as well as an introduction of the main characters. One of the things that made this show great was getting to watch the evolution of each character through the later seasons. Buffy, Willow, Xander each become more grown up and powerful in their own ways as each season passes. Each imperfect but each selfless in their quest to fight the big baddies.

The Orphanage

Posted : 6 days, 2 hours ago on 10 May 2008 05:45 (A review of The Orphanage)

An all-around completely excellent film. I loved The Orphanage and plan to watch it again, soon, when time permits (I always have a stack of new stuff to watch!!). Great suspense, excellent story & acting. Guillermo del Toro is one of my favourites ! A great ending as well, which is a refreshing change from all the crap endings on other movies watched recently.

Untraceable

Posted : 6 days, 2 hours ago on 10 May 2008 05:37 (A review of Untraceable)

Completely predictable and more than a little gruesome - deserving of the 18A rating...I sure wouldn't want my child seeing the kind of disturbing murders that take place in this movie. Overall, decent enough and watchable. Not anything special or really new, but definitely not a waste of time to sit down and watch, like so many others are!
