Warrior's Woman review

Posted : 1 month, 1 week ago on 26 May 2008 05:48 (A review of Warrior's Woman)

Often, if I'm going to read a romance novel, I prefer the historical or period ones. It sort of falls into the same category as period movies. SO it was sort of interesting to read a story that seemingly blended this aspect with a futuristic time period or alternate world. Quite interesting a nice break from the usual romance novel fare.

My thoughts

Posted : 1 month, 1 week ago on 25 May 2008 07:58 (A review of Night Watch (Discworld))

This was a funny and poignant book about visiting the past. I liked how Sam taught his younger self about bravery and doing the right thing. I also liked meeting characters when they were younger such as Dibbler and Vetinari.

This was a good suspenseful mystery as Lindsay and her friends try to figure out who the murderer is before the next victim dies. I liked the characters and the plot and I look forward to reading the next book in the series, 4th of July.

My thoughts

Posted : 1 month, 1 week ago on 25 May 2008 07:55 (A review of Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell)

I admit when I first saw this book I was reluctant to read it - not because of the subject. I like books about magic and history, but because of the size. From the beginning, however, Clarke's writing pulled me into this world in which magic is studied and practiced, used and misunderstood. I especially liked the interactions between Norrell and Strange and the ones between the servant Stephen Black and the faery gentleman with the thistle-down hair.

Good, but not great

Posted : 1 month, 1 week ago on 25 May 2008 06:19 (A review of 13 Little Blue Envelopes)

A charming coming-of-age story with an interesting plot that contains good twists and will leave the reader wondering what will come next. The author does a good job in describing setting, places, and people. By the end, I found myself itching to go on a trip to Europe. What I feel this book was lacking was depth to the main character's relationships with others. While the absence of such deep relationships further enhances the main character's individual growth and change, it leaves the story itself feeling a little flat and underdeveloped. Overall, this is a good read, especially for those who are interested in what it takes to "find yourself."

The Language of Silence

Posted : 1 month, 1 week ago on 24 May 2008 08:54 (A review of The language of silence)

Heartwarming, delightful and inspiring.

If you have ever felt like giving up, feeling like there is no wonder left in life, read this book and look again. J. Allen Boone teaches us to look and listen with our hearts. He even teaches us to communicate with our hearts. I am so grateful.

My world has been filled with wonder ever since learning to see the world the way J. Allen Boone did.

Life Changing

Posted : 1 month, 1 week ago on 24 May 2008 08:41 (A review of Adventures in Kinship with All Life)

I love this J. Allen Boone's work. He brings a wonder in life that most people never get.

His books are delightful to read and surprisingly true. I recommend them to anyone who wants to live in a better world. You will find out it really is possible.

Many would say this was a man before his time, but I say, when does Love and Honor know time limits?

When you are through with this you will be glad to know he wrote more. I have Language of Silence and it is just as wonderful!10/10

Into The Dark Review

Posted : 1 month, 2 weeks ago on 22 May 2008 09:43 (A review of Into the Dark)

It's interesting how at the end of the synopsis of this book it says it's an unforgettable erotic tale giving the impression that it's a vampire erotica. It's anything but that.
It's a vampire novel and yes it does have some erotica in it but not true erotica and that's more towards the end of the story. This is more a general vampire novel about Count Dracula being told from the perspective of Dracula's servant.
Basically it borrows a lot from Bram Stoker's Dracula which is not a rarity in itself but this is to a certain extreme. Kelleher has used characters from Dracula from Mina to Van Helsing, borrowing a lot of the story line which has made the novel remind me a lot of fan fiction.
It's an interesting perspective especially as there is more attention paid to Dracula and the other characters come off as being close to savage heartless men but for someone who has only recently read Bram Stoker's and loved it I find it hard to not get a little peeved with the story. Sure I read it all and I enjoyed the perspective at times but it wasn't exactly ingenious or original. Kelleher has a nice flowing writing style but perhaps if Kelleher hadn't borrowed so much from Bram Stoker's I would give it more credit but as it is I couldn't help be frustrated as it unfolded and neared it's ending. An ending which I thought was ludicrous and unnecessary.

Martha Stuart Goes to Italy

Posted : 1 month, 2 weeks ago on 21 May 2008 06:56 (A review of Under the Tuscan Sun)

I have to be honest, that I'm so jealous of the woman my teeth are turning green. But besides that I found the book quite tedious. I knew going in that this was nothing like the movie. But that could only be a good thing, as the movie was trite and mediocre. In the book (and therefor real life) she buys the house with her boyfriend, and they only use it as a summer house. However, the book could have been a lot better. It felt more like a series of Martha Stuart magazine articles. Two chapters are completely devoted to recipes for meals she's learned to cook using Italian ingredients. And the rest is mainly about how they renovated the house, and what curtains they put where. There are a few cute anecdotes about the people and nearby places, and those I enjoyed tremendously. But generally it was pretty annoying and a very over-rated book.

Meu Primeiro Beijo review

Posted : 1 month, 2 weeks ago on 19 May 2008 05:27 (A review of Meu Primeiro Beijo)

Meu primeiro livro de "mocinha".
Quanta nostalgia, quanta emoção! *.*
