30 Day Song Challenge (30 music items)

"Day 28 - A Song That Makes Me Feel Guilty: Lithium Some of the lyrics in this song reflect my attitude towards my most recent relationship before it went wrong. 'Maybe I'm to blame for all I've heard, I'm not sure' 'I can't wait to meet you there and I don't care' At the start of the relationship, admittedly I had my doubts about it. It all happened quite fast and it took me by surprise. In fact it took most of my friend-cirlce by surprise as well. Well, when my attitude began to "

“Jos sun pitäisi selittää asiaan vihkiytymättömälle mitä on grunge riittää että laitat tämän levyn soimaan, näytät kuvan Kurt Cobainista ja näytät Youtubesta tämän live-vedon. Niihin kulminoituu koko grunge.

Levyllä Nirvana on täydellisesti yhtä. Cobain ei mielestäni missään vaiheessa ollut kaksinen kitaristi, mu” read more

"Going for the Bleedin' Obvious, but "Smells Like Teen Spirit" deserves every accolade for being the song that changed it all. If you were alive then, and a young adult like I was, you know. If you weren't, you just can't imagine how exciting it was to hear this song for the first time. I was so different than everything else on the radio by a long mile."

RS 500: Part 1 (100 music items)

""The overnight success story of the 1990s, Nirvana's second album and its totemic first single, "Smells Like Teen Spirit," shot up from the Northwest underground — the nascent grunge scene in Seattle — to kick Michael Jackson off the top of the Billboard album chart and blow poodle-hair metal off the map. No album in recent history had such an overpowering impact on a generation — a nation of teens suddenly turned punk — and such a catastrophic effect on its main creator. The weight of s"

TIME's 100 Greatest Albums (100 music items)

"“We'll pass on the chance to add to the Kurt Cobain cliche heap and instead offer seven thoughts about the finest album of the 90s. 1. Prior to Nevermind's release, the charts were ruled by Paula Abdul, Roxette and Michael Jackson, so anyone who claims they saw Nirvana coming is, uh, lying. 2. "Smells Like Teen Spirit" (a title that paid ironic tribute to a deodorant for adolescents) may be the album's worst song. 3. "Lounge Act," built on Krist Novoselic's rubber band bass riff and Cobain's"

“I FUCKING LOVE THIS ALBUM. I LOVE NIRVANA! THEY'RE THE BEST. I THINK THAT THIS ALBUM WAS A KICK ASS ALBUM AND THAT KURT, KRIST, AND DAVE DID A FUCKING KICK ASS JOB WITH MAKING THIS ALBUM. THEIR OTHER ALBUMS SUCH AS, IN UTERO, HEART SHAPED BOX, ETC WERE AMAZING. THE BAND WENT THROUGH MANY THINGS AND MAKING THIS ALBUM POSSIBLE WAS REALLY COOL. THE DRUMMING WAS PRETTY GOOD AND THE VOCAL, ETC. IT'S A GREAT ALBUM AND MANY PEOPLE COULD PLAY MOST OF THE SONGS ON THE ALBUM EASILY. YEAH. NIRVANA KICKS ASS!!!” read more

Nirvana - Nevermind

“This is the highest moment of the Grunge movement. I remember entering in a store in Miami (or was it Amsterdam? I can't quite remember...) back in 1992 and listening to this gem. I was only a teenager at the time and did not follow the scene per se, but at the first chords of Smells I was already hooked.

After this album their work only declined and others followed Nirvana's trail, but to me this album is timeless.” read more

Perfection!

“Nirvanas second album. Kurt, Krist and Dave were absolute genius in making this album. The strongest song to date is none other than "smells like teen spirit".

This album is the voice of our generation, certainly an instant classic. Kurts vocals were brilliant, Hard and Raunchy yet at times soft and soothing. This album will not soon be forgotten.

*Key Songs*

"Smells Like Teen Spirit"

"Come As You Are"

"Lithium"

"On A Plain"

"Polly"

"Something In The Way"

"Hidden Song"

*Personal Note* All the songs on the album are great and worth a listening to, but these are my personal favorites.” read more
