Description: I I 0 0 A classic bit of punk rock from 1977, that classic year of punk. Whereas most of this New York City group's peers turned up the distortion, revved up the tempo, and stripped their songs down to tight three-chord anthems, Television did something startlingly different. Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd allowed themselves the sp ... (more)

"This 70's gem is labeled as Art Punk. It's quite good term because Television is a PUNK but not in the traditional way of looking at it. The guitars are not your average "fight riffs". The guitars are technically challenging and proficient. The progressive elements makes Television much more challenging to listen unlike The Ramones or even the early Detroit sound like The Stooges. The lyrics are like poetry. The true meaning of the words are hidden behind the lyrics. Produced by Andy Johns "

RS 500: Part 2 (100 music items)

""When the members of Television materialized in New York, at the dawn of punk, they played an incongruous, soaring amalgam of genres: the noirish howl of the Velvet Underground, brainy art rock, the double-helix guitar sculpture of Quicksilver Messenger Service. As exhilarating in its lyrical ambitions as the Ramones' debut was in its brutal simplicity, Marquee Moon still amazes. "Friction," "Venus" and the mighty title track are jagged, desperate and beautiful all at once. As for punk credentia"
