Description

The legend of Johnny Cash has loomed even larger since his death, though this 20-cut anthology appears designed more to capitalize on that legend than enhance it. While it chronologically spans nearly half a century, the scattershot selection seems almost arbitrary: a few hits (though none of the biggest), a few lesser-known album cuts (though not ... (more)

Features the best of the best of Johnny Cash's lesser know tracks and has some country classics on a single disc. It features some awesome rare recordings of Johnny Cash peforming with Bob Dylan which is an absoulte treat for any folk fans. The cover of Ain't me Babe with his lover June Carter is probabley one of my favourite tracks ever that will stick with me for ever. This Cash volume contains tracks that cover all aspects of his career and icludes some of his lesser heard gospel songs which are undermined by some of his other hits those tracks are worth a listen alone. A must own.

A Great Followup to Volume 1

Volume 1 gives you the songs you hear on Time Life collection infomercials every Saturday night, and this gives you some lesser-known, but still great, tracks.

Ballad of a Teenage Queen is cheesy, as is the studio version of I Still Miss Someone (please please listen to a live version before you skoff at this great song). Bird on a Wire is amazing, as are the songs produced by Rick Rubin, such as Unchained and In the Sweet By and By. The Ballad of Ira Hayes is moving, and Don't Take Your Guns to Town is one that should be played on the aforementioned infomercials. If you're new to Cash, and have listened to Volume 1, give Volume 2 a listen if you're too short on cash (no pun intended) for a box set.
