I heard this album when I was in my late teens and it is the kind of rock music that I will always love. The themes of this album influence the music I like - angst, disappointment, how life is full of irony, strong women etc. It got me hooked on female voices and female singer/songwriters ever since.

Sheryl Crow or an earthier Tori Amos are fair analogies, but Morissette is a genuine original with a rare ability to make listeners care, think, and question. --Jeff Bateman

Who says nothing good comes out of Canada? ;) I know of several and this isn't the only one in this particular list either. It is, however, the only work, or collection, by Alanis that I really care for.
Angsty, heartbroken, angry, violated...this album came about in a unique and altogether tragic way. While staying in LA, Morissette was robbed at gunpoint. This led to her hospitalization, depression, angst...and attending psychotherapy sessions.
Alanis focused all her inner turmoi"

""The album where a Canadian teen-pop dolly remade herself as fire-breathing rock priestess. She rails against treacherous men ("You Oughta Know"), conformity ("Hand in My Pocket") and the preponderance of spoons when all you need is a knife ("Ironic"). A Nineties rock classic.""
