Megadeth is one of the few metal bands to have successfully handled the transition to the '90s, and Countdown to Extinction is proof positive; although considerably more streamlined and commercially oriented than their previous efforts, it's still a fine album, and arguably one of their best. Lead singer and guitarist Dave Mustaine's lyric-writing has improved, and the results can be heard on "Countdown to Extinction," "Symphony of Destruction," "Architecture of Aggression" (it's a rare songwriter who can make a line like that fit in a chorus), and "Foreclosure of a Dream". This is arena metal at its best; Countdown to Extinction (a reference not to genocide, as one might assume, but to endangered species) manages the difficult trick of being commercially appealing and musically sound at the same time. -- Genevieve Williams
"When I first re-signed up again for my first 12 cds, I was a dumbass.
Out of the first 12 that were free, I decided to get not one, but four Megadeth remasters. I remember how excited I was "ZOMG I'm gonna finally finish my Megadeth collection on the shelf! This is gonna be awesome!"
Never forget when I put Youthanasia into my car and was just silenced at the fact at how shitty the remixing sounded.
That's right folks, i didn't buy one, I bought the whole works of the Megadeth remastering ca"
"Dave Mustaine had finally found the perfect companion in a guitar player for his band with Marty Friedman. Going into the 90's and with the bar raised so high on expectations no one thought they could keep the edge, but they did with that blasting riff in Symphony for Destruction.
This is the only Metal album I've ever played with another person on with leads and rhythm. At one point as a teenager, we spent countless hours working our asses off on Sweating Bullets, Symphony of Destruction, and "
