Bone Machine marked a return to studio material for Waits, coming a full five years after his previous studio album, Franks Wild Years (1987). "Took a few listenings for me to get this but when I did, it really hit me since this one is incredible in every way and perhaps the best Waits I've heard so far (Swordfishtrombones is a good challenger though). The overall feeling is very raw and rough and so on and there are many great songs, such as "Dirt in the Ground" or "Goin' Out West". Almost worth five stars.
/edit: Bought it."

"1992
Favourite song: "That Feel"
Favourite moment: The "drunken emperor Nero" vocals on "In the Colosseum", the cool lyrics to "Black Wings", the desperation of "I Don't Wanna Grow Up", the apocalyptic feel on "Earth Dies Screaming"... could pick anything."
"Bone Machine is one of my favorite Waits records just because it's so scary and rugged. The stripped-down approach works beautifully and the dark and provoking yet beautifully melancholic lyrics are some of his best stuff. "Murder in the Red Barn" is my favorite Waits song of all time.
Why I'm using the word "beautifully" so much when the record is so grimey and depressing? The magic of Tom Waits.
Produced by Tom Waits "
"Tom Waits' darkest album to date. BONE MACHINE is a moody album with traditional raspy voiced Tom Waits singing his poetry. Music is closer to the Rain Dogs -era than the 70's bar jazz. But BONE MACHINE isn't Avant Garde -It's a blues album with domination percussion and haunting guitar work.
