Fronted by eternal cynic Peter Steele (ex-Carnivore), Type O Negative have evolved from an atmospheric punk band to a melodic gothic metal outfit. The band's breakthrough disc Bloody Kisses blends gothic keyboards, dense guitars, and mournful vocals reminiscent of Sisters of Mercy with metal riffs and surging rhythms that sound like a cross between Black Sabbath and The Cult. The combination is compelling, and on "Christian Woman" and "Black No. 1" (which features the chorus "Loving you was like loving the dead"), Type O Negative's negativity shines through in a way that makes depressed teenage girls dressed in black swoon. --Jon Wiederhorn
"I wanted to find the t shirt with this album cover. I never found any t shirt with the band. They were never much popular. Nobody i knew was listening to this band, their loss."
"I originally bought the digipak release of this album first, a version which had 9 tracks that flowed together wonderfully & perfectly captured the overall theme of heartbreak that inspired the album. As a result it was for many years my favorite break-up album. Later I'd get around to picking up the other version, which had 2 short, heavy tracks, a slightly different song order, & a handful of filler tracks. While I love the heavier songs, I've always felt the digipak version is the better one "

"This would be the special edition, which is the more "serious" version...it lacks the filler tracks and the hilarious songs "we hate everyone" and "kill all the white people". Thus it's darker. The regular version works as well, but I prefer this one for Halloween.
See also October Rust."
