Much more mellow than their earlier stuff, Tool has yet to settle on a sound. Each album is vastly different than the last. I personally prefer Lateralus, but this one isn't bad. I am just worry I have to wait another 5 years for their next one.

With a majority of the songs on 10,000 Days clocking in well past the seven-minute mark, you wouldn't be entirely mistaken in thinking that the title of the album refers to how long it actually takes to make it through the whole thing. With a majority of the songs on 10,000 Days clocking in well past the seven-minute mark, you wouldn't be entirely mistaken in thinking that the title of the album refers to how long it actually takes to make it through the whole thing. Two of the tracks--the sitar and tabla enhanced "10,000 Days (Wings Part 2)" and its suitably epic psych-rock sister "Rosetta Stoned"--even linger on for nearly a dozen leisurely minutes each. That's delightful news for the legion of Tool fans that have been waiting five years for the follow-up to 2001's Lateralus, which debuted at number one and sold 2.3 million copies in the United States. Singer Maynard James Keenan is back on mystical form after his hiatus with the politically slanted A Perfect Circle, sounding at once ethereal and eloquent as he calmly charges through the metal tempest of the opening track "Vicarious." The rest of the band, meanwhile, hits a series of high-flying moments with tracks such as "Jambi" and "The Pot." When Tool sounds as good as it does on these songs it's hard to get enough. Which makes it all the more baffling that a surprisingly large chunk of the disc is given over to mood-enhancing soundscapes like "Lost Keys" and "Vigniti Tres." "
When I seen this album, I just had to buy it. Much like other Tool records, you are just hynpotized by the creative packaging of the album, similar to Ænima. I really am not going to say anything bad about that at all. The glasses, and artwork itself was very cool in the 3D lenses. A very creative way to pack a cd, and it wins a vote there for artwork.
But the music, was the major let down. There's a thing with buying an album with a really cool cover, and wondering if you just bought artwork"
"Angels on the sideline,
Puzzled and amused.
Why did Father give these humans free will?
Now they're all confused.
Don't these talking monkeys know that
Eden has enough to go around?
Plenty in this holy garden, silly monkeys,
Where there's one you're bound to divide it.
Right in two.
Angels on the sideline,
Baffled and confused.
Father blessed them all with reason.
And this is what they choose.
And this is what they choose...
Monkey killing monkey killing monkey
Over pieces of the ground.
Sill"
"Finally...10,000 Days. TOOL always has the best packaging in their LP's. This one comes along with stereoscopic eyeglasses which help to watch the booklet pictures. FUCKING GENIUS.
I don't have much to say about TOOL. They're mad but also geniuses. The complex song-structions and lyrics always keeps you edged to your seat.
