Decent British Hitchcock film with a cast that was almosy completely new to me (Nova Pilbeam and Derrick De Marney). Great atmosphere and tension, its the plot that lets the film down - a clone of the vastly superior, The 39 Steps. Still, there is a spectacular scene in a mineshaft and quite possibly the first use of the phrase "Step on it!". Entertaining.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this flick but since I'm a huge fan of Alfred Hitchcock, I thought I should give it a try. First of all, apparently, since the movie has fallen in the public domain, many versions of this film are available online and many of those versions are of rather poor quality so the whole thing looked pretty terrible. Still, this time, I was able to follow the story withou... read more

First of all, apparently, since the movie has fallen in the public domain, many versions of this film are available online and many of those versions are of rather poor quality so the whole thing looked pretty terrible. Still, this time, I was able to follow the story without much trouble. Indeed, it is one of the most basic pattern used by Alfred Hitchcock, the story of an ordinary man involved in some wild story, usually a murder or a conspiracy. This time, Hitchcock had added much humor but even though it was indeed often funny, it made it hard to take the whole thing really seriously. Furthermore, the whole plot about the main character looking for his raincoat w” read more

"Much like every other early period Hitchcock I've seen, Young and Innocent is sufficiently entertaining to fulfill your cinematic needs (what on earth am I blabbering on about?), but at the end of the day, there's not a whole lot to write home about. It's got the romance, the suspense (supposedly, it is a bit too lighthearted for that) and the comedic aspects in good balance. It's a neat little film, but I'm pretty sure I never need to see it again."

Alfred Hitchcock's Movie Cameos (37 movies items)

"The cameo in this peerless potboiler is not Hitch's finest moment. Posing as a photojournalist outside a courthouse, he shuffles uncomfortably while clutching a camera and looking like a man who's just realised he's left the iron on. "
