Since I have a weak spot for Sean Connery, I was really eager to check this flick and even though it it is actually pretty osbcure. It was John Milius second directing feature and he would have some success with 'Conan the Barbarian' and you can feel that, back then, Milius already had a good feeling for exotic adventure. “Since I have a weak spot for Sean Connery, I was really eager to check this flick and even though it it is actually pretty osbcure. It was John Milius second directing feature and he would have some success with 'Conan the Barbarian' and you can feel that, back then, Milius already had a good feeling for exotic adventure. Still, it remains a rather odd mix between a cheap version of Lawrence of Arabia and a diplomatic-political satire featuring Theodore Roosevelt. It is like the casting of Sean Connery as an Arab warlord, it is completely ridiculous but, surprisingly, thanks to his everlasting charm and some funny oneliners, he actually pulls it off. Their portraying of the Arabs was also rather dubious, they were either noble, sophisticated and charming like Sean Connery or they seem rath” read more
