Serene perfection, the violence is expressed as human little chaos and Kazan, instead of the efectism of the beating, concentrates on the aftermath: Monty asking Lee to get married, after she pray for it. Jo Van Fleet is excellent in each second, she is just proving somethong, taking accounts, demonstrating. Wondferful.

My Movie Diary 2017 (217 movies items)

"31 March. Monty Clift looked bored in this Elia Kazan movie about a government land official tasked to relocate residents of a Tennessee town in danger of a planned dam. The young Lee Remick seems to be the only one with spirit. Deemed a hidden classic due to its sociological theme, an obvious importance, but, the story and location tend to really bore.  "
