White Heat may be the only instance when a first experience with an actor instantly turned me into a fan. After this I had to watch any James Cagney movie I could get my hand on.

White Heat is part of a long line of crime and gangster movies released by Warner Bros during the 30’s and 40’s, and also marked Cagney’s return to the studio after a number of years absent.

White Heat was on my "to watch" list for quite a long time. When I finally got round to watching it, I wasn't disappointed with it at all. In all fairness, I wouldn't call myself a big fan of gangster films but this one gripped me from start to finish. Cagney stars as Cody Jarrett, a psychopathic criminal with a mother complex, although describing him as simply 'psychopathic' would be an understatement. Cagney's performance is both terrifying and mesmerizing, with the character’s defining introductory moment involving him getting one of many headaches and having to be comforted by his mother, setting the tone for a film which is a violent thrill r” read more
