"Everton is the dominant species. I am Everton."

Despite the presence of James Cameron's long-time producing partner Gale Anne Hurd, Virus is a far cry from the likes of The Terminator and The Abyss. Whereas those movies were cerebral sci-fi with a hint of action, this 1999 blockbuster is just a dumb action film, using a nifty concept to craft a straight-ahead action fiesta without ... read more

I don't understand why the actors agreed to this movie, the special effects where all right, but the story was bland. The movie had potential but even the actors could not save it, because it went down the predictable path very quickly and ended up being boring. Jamie Lee and Donald Sutherland where bland, as I said the special effects where good but the story let ti down.

An average movie

I'm a big fan of Donald Sutherland and he is the reason why I watched this flick. If you don't expect too much before watching this, you shouldn't be disappointed. The special effects and suspense scenes are OK but nothing very original or interesting here. It's an average B movie and it's not really worth a look.

2015 Horror Journal (66 movies items)

" This movie used to scare the crap out of me when I was a kid. Nowdays? Not so much. And it's abundant flaws are much more obvious to me as well. There's a great cast here, but I'm not sure what drew them to this film. Unfortunately they don't have much to work with. The characters are pretty shallow. And sometimes they're downright weird. Especially the comically inept tugboat captain played by none other than Donald Sutherland. No matter how many robots are tearing people apart his top priori"

Despite the presence of James Cameron's long-time producing partner Gale Anne Hurd, Virus is a far cry from the likes of The Terminator and The Abyss. Whereas those movies were cerebral sci-fi with a hint of action, this 1999 blockbuster is just a dumb action film, using a nifty concept to craft a straight-ahead action fiesta without even a hint of nuance, subtlety or complexity. It's also more or less a mishmash of plot ideas and action scenes from other, superior motion pictures, from The Terminator to Aliens. Add to this the fact that the film was directed by a special effects technician (John Bruno), and that nobody in the cast seems to care about anything other than their paycheque, and the result is a movie that's easy to hat” read more

Failed movie franchises part 2 (131 movies items)

" Note : Based on a comic book from Dark Horse. I remember that they wanted to do a sequel to this movie since the movie did leave things off for another movie. I also remember they try to market this movie as a big budget blockbuster with a lot of merchandise at the time until the movie was a huge box office bomb. "

“Maybe the movie does not reach for his dash and his story the best reviews but like the race of Gemini, the aliens do not tend to manifest in the flesh, or metal to be tangible, can be pure energy in space , looking for a place to live, ie are versatile and survivors, remember that humans 1) an electromagnetic pulse and leave us in the stone age without being able to defend ourselves, 2) a virus that would wipe out much of the population that easy and 3) kill us among ourselves, that is, the battle can be won without ahber begun” read more

I regret this film. (34 movies items)

"Jamie Lee Curtis, Virus One-time “Scream Queen” Curtis made her long-awaited return to horror in 1998 with Halloween: H20, an enjoyable follow-up to the film that made her a star, so her 1999 shot at sci-fi/horror seemed promising, particularly since it was produced by Gale Anne Hurd (whose credits included Aliens and The Terminator). But the $75 million movie tanked in its January 1999 release, and the reviews were brutal. However, no one was more unforgiving than Curtis, who still had u"
