V/H/S is an ingenious amalgam of two horror staples: the "found footage" subgenre, and the horror anthology structure. Containing a total of six short stories, the film provided the opportunity for a handful of up-and-coming horror directors to experiment with herky-jerky POV horror. Eschewing the polish and sheen of recent films like Cloverfield and Project X, V/H/S a... read more
This film debuted at Sundance then went on to limited theatrical release. That's one step above straight-to-DVD. The fact that this is low budget isn't what hurts; I've seen truly good films made for next to nothing - this just wasn't one of them.
I've never liked the camcorder genre of film-making. It's amateurish, aggravating and tends to lend towards headache-inducing, as well. T... read more
This movie arrives during an unfortunate time where found Footage movies are coming out in waves. However, this is a notch above most of them. It's not perfect but it does add some new fresh twists and in today's world that's enough to warrant a recommendation and put it above most movies in this genre.
This is an anthology, so for those who've seen Creepshow it's like that except th... read more
When a group of misfits is hired by an unknown third party to burglarize a desolate house and acquire a rare VHS tape, they discover more found footage than they bargained for.

V/H/S is a film I wanted to loved so badly due to my overall love of anthology films and television series, but it fell miles short of my expectations and many others. The idea is a fun one, but rather than make a good wrap around story to bring it all together they choose a rather bland one with nothing at all interesting to bring to the table. The stories are all over the place in terms of quality, my favorite story being the last for it's sense of batshit insanity in the special effects de"

The few high points of the movie? A couple of interesting ideas for shorts that were crudely and sadly executed (the harpy in the first short and the alien-fetus episode); and a few, halfway attractiv

"First viewing - March 16th/17th
I really hate the shaky-cam style of filmmaking, so it should come as little surprise that this film failed to win me over. It's like watching a handful of short films on YouTube uploaded by users instead of people who know what the hell they're doing...annoying to watch, full of characters you can't stand, and at the moments when you'd MOST want to see what's going on the camera gets distorted/pushed out of frame/shut off which I guess is supposed to be "edgy" o"

I've never liked the camcorder genre of film-making. It's amateurish, aggravating and tends to lend towards headache-inducing, as well. The only film I've ever seen of this type that was halfway decent was Cloverfield.
A string of vignettes drawn together (in the form of VHS tapes) which are viewed by the characters in the main skit. Here's the gist of it: low-rent burglars are charged with invading a house and procuring a video tape for someone. The gang break in and find a dead man, seated in a chair before a bank of telev” read more

Low-budget, amateur-hour dreck with only a few interesting moments. I really should have went with my first instinct and took a pass.
