Let me start by saying that this is the craziest action movie I have ever seen. I don't mean crazy in the sense it has crazy action scenes (it has), or crazy characters (it has..) or a crazy story (it does have...), I mean crazy on the freaking whole, the whole movie is crazy and has a crazy concept, and that is what made it interesting and entertaining to me.
The one thing that is obvious from watching this film is that the cast and crew had a really enjoyable time making it. Some of that cheerfulness does rub off on you as you watch it too. What starts off as the usual kidnapping fair quickly evolves into a paranormal zombie flick. Cue the yakuza cleaving their way through the undead and you've pretty much summed up the plot.

I figured I'd start by watching the least well-received film from the ones I shared. I'd originally seen Versus about 10 years ago at the house of a fellow movie-buff friend, in one of those "dude, you've got to see this film" moments. And I loved it that first time, enough to insist a couple other people watch it with me since...but it had been a while since I last sat down with it, and I found that my high opinion of it had changed a little.
Now I don't think it had anyt"

Now this film is a true cult classic. Ether you see something in it that you can enjoy or are just groaning your way through the film.
The films story line is rather bizarre and only servers as a thin veil to add whatever the director finds 'wild' or 'interesting'.
However, if your looking for a postmodern action gore film... I would still recommend something from the director Ngai Choi Lam. "Lao mao" (The Cat) (1992) or "Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky" (1991) which are both horrible... horrib"

"I didn't mean to save you - they just pissed me off." -Prisoner KSC2-303
When a movie starts out with Zombies attacking gangsters, you know that you are in for a good time - and Versus was just that - a good time - it is a non stop thrill ride with incredible action sequences involving some very gory scenes, but gory in an entertaining 'I can't believe I just saw that' way, not a 'I'm glad I didn't just eat' kind of way - on top "

Yakuza, samurai, assassins, and zombies. Throw them all together, and this is what you get. There's a lot going on in this movie, and I wouldn't dare attempt to put it together for you. Go watch it for yourself. I will say that it's a hell of a ride, a lot of fun, and you'll want to watch it at least twice.
Featured zombie type: Re-animated corpses armed with weapons (not flesh-eaters)."

In one sense, I'm surprised I didn't enjoy this film more. In another, my less than passing grade reflects a truth I'm beginning to learn about myself, and that is: I do not, by and large, like action films all that much. And while Versus bends genres quite a bit (where else can you get zombies and samurais and mobsters and portals that link different worlds all in the same movie?) at the end of the day, this is largely an "Action" film that relies heavily on extended action sequences. There's"
