Unfortunately the movie lacks the personal characters and humor that make Naked and Career Girls brilliant. Per se, Vera Drake is a fine and well-acted movie that deals with an important subject but it's just too melodramatic for my taste. I find a more low-key melancholia more touching (see: the end of Career Girls).
