Drug-induced masterpiece

This film is beautiful, funny, shocking, brutal, tragic, and hopeful. First time I saw it, I didn't like it much, mostly because its so hard to understand those scottish accents, but I now view it as a genuine masterpiece and destined to become a classic.

Trainspotting is a story about a bunch of friends, and I use term 'friends' in the loosest sense, that have only one thing in ... read more

''Take the best orgasm you've ever had... multiply it by a thousand, and you're still nowhere near it.''

Renton, deeply immersed in the Edinburgh drug scene, tries to clean up and get out, despite the allure of the drugs and influence of friends.

Danny Boyle makes a film that manages to get us to sympathise with a bunch of Scottish heroin addics. It can't be easy to do such a thing. The film is extremely funny at times, bleak at others, but the one emotion that pervades the entire film is hopelessness. Even once Ewan McGregor's character starts to make something of his life, he is still plagued by his old friends and eventually plumets bac... read more

"Kolmisen vuotta viime kerrasta. En tajua miksi en ole aiemmin pitänyt tätä muuna kuin hyvänä elokuvana. Ihanasti vitun sekaisin oleva mestariteoshan tämä on, ei siitä pääse mihinkään."

"22/1/17 One of the stand-out films of the 90's. This inventive, funny, shocking and powerful film has more energy than any film has any right to have as we follow the drug-fuelled lives of Renton, Sick-Boy, Spud and Begbie. A landmark in British cinema."

30 From 96: My Favorite Films From 1996 (30 movies items)

"Danny Boyle's second (and IMO, his best) directorial feature is a kinetically vocal ditty about the heroin drug scene in a culturally rich yet economically poor section of Edinburgh. Mark Renton, played by Ewan McGregor in a breakthrough role, is a young opioid dependent living in the capital city of Scotland along with his motley crew of fellow addicts. Deciding to finally seek the path of a drug free life, he quickly comes to realize that sometimes, spotting trains can be funny, while at o"

1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die (1990's) (124 movies items)

" Notes: Either you like this movie or not, the fact remains that it is easily the most influential British movie released in the 90's. Even though I prefer 'Shallow grave', I must admit that I was really impressed by the second movie directed by Danny Boyle. Indeed, there was some great directing, some great acting and it was plain and simply a very entertaining movie. Still, even though I think it is really good, I'm not sure if it is really that great though. This is a really personal point o"
