''If I am not me, then who the hell am I?''

When a man goes for virtual vacation memories of the planet Mars, an unexpected and harrowing series of events forces him to go to the planet for real, or does he?

Arnold Schwarzenegger: Douglas Quaid / Hauser

Easily one of Paul Verhoeven's finest films and definitely one of my favourite Arnie classics. This film made a lasting impression on me when I first saw it as a youngster. I watched it again at university and loved it. This is good old fashioned entertainment. It's gory and ultra violent with some extremely...interesting special effects. Apparently there were lots of arguments during filming but ... read more

"If I am not me, then who the hell am I?"

What do you get when you merge Paul Verhoeven's ability for directing ultra-violent action films with the conventions of an Arnold Schwarzenegger action vehicle? The answer is Total Recall; an exciting, thought-provoking and violent science fiction action spectacle. The movie's plot was taken from Philip K. Dick's short story We Can Remember... read more

Movies That Predicted The Future (18 movies items)

"Driverless cars Based on a Philip K. Dick short story, this Arnold Schwarzenegger film envisioned elements of the future like videoconferencing and holograms. But it’s the JohnnyCab, an autonomous vehicle that drives its passengers anywhere they want to go, that was particularly prescient. While a driverless car may have seemed far-fetched to viewers back in 1990, Google has since patented its autonomous car and Nevada has made them street legal. With a roof-mounted laser that can differentia"

"12th of May, Digiboksi (rewatch, ei muutosta pisteytykseen) Aina yhtä loistava ja ajaton tieteiselokuvan mestariteos, joka on täynnä mustaa huumoria, veristä toimintaa sekä vaikuttavia erikoistehosteita. Juoni on kimurantti ja juonenkäänteet hämäävät katsojaa toisellakin katselukerralla. Tähän ei vaan koskaan tunnu kyllästyvän. Ansaitusti klassikko jo syntyessään. "

"Doug Quaid: You, you're not you. You're me. Doug Quaid: No shit! This sci-fi movie has everything you want, action, visual effects and comedy, it comes off a bit chessy because of Arnie, but still with or without him the story is brilliant, and the visual effects great for 1990's. "

"Total rewatch! :D Many critics overlooked it (Metacritic's score is a mere 57), but Roger Ebert well understood how interesting and compelling this sci-fi blockbuster was: ...This is one of the most complex and visually interesting science fiction movies in a long time. But the plot, based on a story by the great science fiction writer Phillip K. Dick, centers on an intriguing idea: What would happen if you could be supplied with memories? If your entire "past," right up until this moment, could"

Movie Reviews (part 4) (50 movies items)

" The Ups: Great "is it all true or a dream" concept. Glorious mix of cartoon violence, satire, extreme action, makeup from Rob Bottin and a Arnold Schwarzenegger in great engaging mood. Great supporting cast too. Sharon Stone is a memorable bitch wife. Michael Ironside and Ronny Cox is a good villain duo. The Downs: Not much to complain about here. This was one of the final great Schwarzenegger movies before he started to make more average stuff."

" In this film from Paul Verhoeven, Arnold Schwarzenegger plays Quaid, a man with weird dreams of Mars who goes against advice and visits Rekall, a company that can take users on fantastical vacations using memory implants. But something goes wrong and Quaid starts to believe he is a secret agent, his marriage a fraud, and his co-workers out to get him. The big question throughout the film is whether the Rekall memory implant worked, meaning that the entire film is a falsified memory, "
