A very good movie

Since I kept hearing good things about this flick, I was really eager to check it out and the fact that I always enjoyed Sydney Pollack's work made made me even more eager. Actually, it had been a while since I saw one of his movies but this one really blew me away and it is definitely one of his best efforts. I mean, I knew beforehand that it was dealing with a dance marathon but I thought those ... read more

Description: The Depression and the Thirties. Most Americans were hungry; careers were broken; people were at a loss to understand what had happened. Most of them had been brought up to believe that if you worked hard and well, and otherwise behaved yourself, good fortune would be your fate. Yet during the Depression, failure, want, and defeat visited multitudes. They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? is an evocation of that time. Some have interpreted the movie as a parable about the human condition. Horace McCoy’s 1935 novel has been adapted for the screen by James Poe and Robert E. Thompson. A peculiar phenomenon of the Depression era was ... (more)

"One of the most overrated movies I've ever seen. I found some value in it but I'm perplexed by all the critical acclaim."

Tai no mitä odotin elokuvalta maratontansseista? Black Mirror -jaksona nämä tällaiset. (dvd 1.4)"

PopMatter's Essential Film Performances - 2012 (50 movies items)

"FROM PAGE TO SCREEN Jane Fonda You’ve got to hand it to Jane Fonda. She started her movie career fifty years ago as the daughter of America’s hero, and has weathered controversy, a dump truck full of hits and flops, and even blacklisting. And now? Well, she’s still as charming and relevant as ever. Her new film, Peace, Love, and Misunderstanding, shows that she can take so-so writing and an almost unthinkably unplayable character, look at her squarely, with almost pathological empathy an"
