Award worthy

One of the most powerful films of 2006. If you didn't understand the troubles in Ireland before, you will by the time the end credits roll. Ken Loach and his lead 'Cillian Murphy' deserved awards recognition for this film.

A very good movie

Years after years, Ken Loach came with his movies to the Cannes Film festival and, this time, he finally received the coveted Golden Palm thanks to this flick. Did it deserve it? It is difficult to tell since I have not seen all the movies in competition for that particular year but what I do know is that it was a damned fine movie. Indeed, as usual with Ken Loach, the directing was sober and comp... read more

Description: Ireland, 1920. Damien and Teddy are brothers. But while the latter is already the leader of a guerrilla squad fighting for the independence of his motherland, Damien, a medical graduate of University College, would rather further his training at the London hospital where he has found a place. However, shortly before his departure, he happens to witness atrocities committed by the ferocious Black and Tans and finally decides to join the resistance group led by Teddy. The two brothers fight side by side until a truce is signed. But peace is short-lived and when one faction of the freedom-fighters accepts a treaty with the British ... (more)

"When it comes to wind, there are different kinds. There are light breezes, there are gale force winds, and even more dangerous there are those winds that come out of your butt. There are winds of war, there are winds of change, and then there are those winds that simply shake the barley. This film, despite its name, is not about that. It's about two Irish brothers and their struggles, against the British empire, against the civil warring factions of their resistance groups, and eventually, aga"

"Good cast of talent and overall an interesting movie about Ireland fighting for it's independence/civil war. I didn't know that the Irish people didn't have any blood in them before this. Seriously though the no blood thing was really bothering me since they have people executed by a firing squads and guerilla stule attacks that are suppoused to be bloody and shocking the people involved.Besides that it was a pretty good movie."

"1st viewing, PC/TV 24 July 2016 Directed by: Ken Loach Sunshinen ja Peaky Bindersin(jossa Cillian Murphy tekee elämänsä yhden parhaimmista roolitöistä) innoittamana päätin katsella hieman enemmän Cillian-leffoja. Ken Loach on yksi suosikkejani ja Kes on ehdottomasti yksi kaikkien aikojen suosikkielokuviani. Loachin elokuvat ovat aina ennen kaikkea inhimillisiä. Niin myös tämä, itkuhan siinä pääsi. "
