The Spanish Prisoner referred to in the movie's title is a term used for identifying a mark in a certain type of confidence scheme. Featuring Steve Martin playing out of character as a protagonist of a mortiferous nature, it's a con game written with the intellectual lethalness that usually comes with a Mamet movie.
