One of the most definitive Arnie movies

"I'm not into politics. I'm into survival. "

Mere months following the release of Predator in mid-1987, Arnold Schwarzenegger was back in action for The Running Man; a fast-paced, futuristic action movie which takes a satiric poke at TV, greed, social injustice, and America's preoccupation with violence and game shows. Based rather loosely on the novella by Stephen King (under the p... read more

Undoubtedly one of Arnie's finest. The Running Man takes place in a dystopian future where violent game shows are regularly screened to the baying populace in an attempt to appease to oppressed. Arnies' character, Ben Richards, is a police helicopter pilot who nobly refuses to gun down hoards of unarmed civilians in a downtown food riot. He is swiftly overpowered by his colleagues (yeah right) who... read more

Films and the critics who hate them (741 movies items)

"Schwarzenegger sadistically dispatches the baddies, enunciating typical wisecrack remarks (many repeated from his previous films), but it's all too easy. - Variety, Variety Staff The movie's problem is that all of the action scenes are versions of the same scenario. - Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times You want to know if The Running Man is a good-time macho show, right? Stay at home and watch professional wrestling. - Desson Thomson, Washington Post"

Movie Reviews (part 2) (50 movies items)

" The Ups: Great comment on game shows and reality long before it became a popular trend on TV. You get to see Arnold get killed on national TV. Paula Abdul did the dance moves in the film. It is pretty underrated and especially the first half of the movie is great. The Downs: Stephen King's book is better. The ending is too easy in this film, while the one in the book is unfilmable now. The gameshow concept is pretty much "American Gladiators" with real deaths. "

The Bad Movie's ... A Guilty Pleasure (15 movies items)

"that movie could have been a great action classic with a bigger budget but instead it's great bad third-rate movie with some not so great outfits. the screenplay is originally half bad and the presence of the Tv host from Family Feud Richard Dawson is unusual and over all there's some ridiculous action scenes , some lovely dancers and not so bad soundtrack. the verdict... one of the worst bad movie on this list but i still like it (lol) "
