On the beautiful but dangerous waters of Australia's Great Barrier Reef, ship delivery man Luke and four friends chart a yacht to its new owner. Along the way, their ship is torn open by sharp rocks and begins to sink, leaving the passengers with a terrifying choice: stay on board with slim hope of rescue, or swim twelve miles to the nearest island through shark-infested waters. Description: Luke welcomes his friend Matt and his girlfriend Suzie that come from London and Matt's sister and Luke's former girlfriend Kate that comes from Sydney to sail with him and the sailor Warren in a sailboat. However, the vessel hits an underwater rock and capsizes with an opening on her bottom. Luke advises that they should swim in the north direction to reach the Turtle Island, in Queensland, Australia, while they have strength since there is a current moving the boat in the opposite direction of land but Warren prefers to stay on the hull waiting for help since there are sharks in the water. The quartet swims, but they are hunte ... (more)

Top 5 Shark Movies (5 movies items)

" I've championed this movie ever since I first saw it, and I still believe it to be an incredible movie and far above the quality of those shitty made-for-TV schlock-fests. There's tension aplenty, it's well-paced, and the shark effects are the most convincing that I've ever seen, mainly because real sharks were used. It doesn't always work, but it's effective enough to stand out from the herd. "

When they enter the water, an unstoppable, relentless Great White immediately follows their trail for a white-knuckle chase that will fill the waters with blood! From the director of the acclaimed monster hit Black Water comes a pulse-pounding, visually stunning thriller that never lets go until the final, heart-stopping scream!” read more

" About 1,000 times better than Open Water. This film is achingly suspenseful and truly brutal."

" Pretty people with accents in bathing suits traveling exotic locations. It's a classic setup, and one in which I've never not found something to enjoy. But of course when the strength of those aspects alone begin to fade, we have the promise of blood-thirsty sharks to rekindle our interest. But... it never quite plays out that way. Though the performances here are actually quite admirably strong, the script and direction lags too far behind to lift this title too far above other entries into t"

Samalla heidän tukala tilanteensa on"

Competently-crafted thriller machine

“"I fish these waters, mate. I know what's out there!"

When was the last time you remember seeing a genuinely good shark movie? Steven Spielberg's Jaws from 1975 is likely the most popular choice, and it's perhaps the only good shark film in existence. In subsequent years, a few subpar Jaws sequels entered cinemas along with films like Deep Blue Sea, and then in the noughties we began seeing a glut of awful, low-budget, straight-to-DVD shark features (Shark Attack 3: Megalodon, anybody?). Thank goodness, then, for 2010's The Reef; an incredibly intense Australian thriller from writer-director Andrew Traucki, who was last seen at the helm of the similarly-themed Black Water back in 2007 (a crocodile flick). Traucki has visibly improved his cinematic technique since his 2007 feature” read more
