The Protector review

Tony Jaa has absolutely phenomenal martial arts skills. Even though it was just a showcase for his talents, I still immensely enjoyed Ong Bak and I guess the same could be said in this film. Ong Bak boasted no stunt doubles or wirework, which was a welcome change to the string of films coming out of the East at the same time which relied heavily on slightly ludecrous wire fights. I'm not sure whether this film can say the same, because some parts just looked utterly superhuman. Then again, TJ is superhuman, so maybe this was all him once more.

The plot is typically ridiculous, but who cares! It's much darker than Ong Bak and Tony Jaa is rampaging through the australian underworld with no code of ethics or morals to hold him back. He's just a tour de force of ownage this time around, and the fight scene towards the end of the film where he is swarmed by scores of bodyguards is everything the Neo Vs Smiths burly brawl scene should have been and more!
