Since I have always been a fan of Jane Campion, I was really eager to watch this flick. Nicole Kidman had the lead role and, back then, it seems such a long time ago, she wasn't really recognized as one of the best actress around but she was merely known as being 'Mrs Cruise'. Eventually, she gave here a very good performance, just like the rest of the impressive cast (John Malkovich, Barbara Hershey, Mary-Louise Parker, Shelley Winters, Shelley Duvall, Christian Bale, Viggo Mortensen). Furthermore, I did enjoy the directing, the costumes and the sets which were all very good but still, I felt rather underwhelmed by the story.
